After Thursday’s first round of the RBC Heritage, the field was looking up at Justin Thomas ($10,200; 68.5 FPTS), who blistered the green with a 10-under round (61) to tie the course record.
On Friday, Thomas was nowhere near historic, but he still leads the field by two strokes after going -2 (69). On the front nine, Thomas had two birdies and a bogey. After bogeying the first hole of the back nine, Thomas regrouped and finished the round with two birdies.
In the $1M Sand Trap tournament, Thomas is rostered on 11.87% of teams, the 20th-most.
DK Sportsbook had Thomas at +230 to win it all, the second-lowest odds, after Thursday’s round. Thomas is now the clear favorite at +200 after Friday.
The favorite after Thursday was Scottie Scheffler ($13,100; 49.5 FPTS) at +190. Scheffler is also the most rostered golfer at 28.63%. Scheffler is now +400 to win it all after shooting a -1 (70) on Friday.
On the front nine, Scheffler racked up three birdies and two bogeys. The back nine was a par fest.
Russell Henley ($9,700; 52.5 FPTS) was tied for second after Thursday’s first round. He remains tied for second after Friday’s -3 (68). Henley had two birdies on the front nine, then two birdies and a bogey on the back nine. Henley had the third-lowest odds to win it all at +900 after Thursday. He remains with the third-lowest at +650.
Henley was tied for second with Scheffler after Thursday’s first round. Now he’s tied for second with Si Woo Kim ($7,600; 73 FPTS). After shooting a -3 (68) on Thursday, Kim blistered the course with a -7 (64) on Friday.
Kim birdied two of the first three holes of the day then drained an eagle two holes later. He closed out the front nine with a birdie. On the back nine, Kim birdied the first three holes. The only blemish was a bogey on Hole 14.
Kim is rostered on 4.73% of teams. DK Sportsbook has Kim at +1000 to win it all, tied for the fourth-lowest odds.
There is one other golfer rostered on over 20% of teams, and that is Collin Morikawa ($10,900; 19 FPTS) at 26.24%.
Morikawa finished Thursday -2 (69) and was eight strokes off the lead. On Friday, he went -5 (66) and is now five strokes off the lead. Morikawa had two birdies on the front nine and three on the back nine for the unblemished round.
Morikawa was +3500 to win it all, tied for the sixth-lowest odds, after Thursday’s round. He is now at +1400, the fifth-lowest.
Here are the golfers rostered on at least 10% of teams that had a rough first two days:
Bud Cauley ($7,500; 24.5 FPTS) is rostered on 14.29% of teams. After the -2 (69) on Thursday, Cauley went +3 (74) on Friday and is 13 strokes off the lead. It was a fairly uneventful day for Cauley as he racked up a birdie and a bogey through 17 holes. On the final hole, though, he double-bogeyed.
Sahith Theegala ($7,300; 26 FPTS) is rostered on 12.71% of teams. He shot a +4 (75) on Thursday. Friday’s round of -3 (68) was much better with two birdies on the front nine and a birdie on the back nine for the unblemished round. He has his work cut out for him, though, and is 13 strokes off the lead.
Corey Conners ($9,800; 31.5 FPTS) is rostered on 14.84% of teams. After shooting a -1 (70) on Thursday, Conners went par (71) on Friday. The day began ominously with a double-bogey on the first hole of the round. He got back a stroke with a birdie five holes later. On the back nine, Conners birdied the first hole, but gave it right back with a bogey the next hole. He closed out the back nine with two birdies and a bogey. Conners is 11 strokes off the lead.
Tom Hoge ($7,100; 31.5 FPTS) is rostered on 16.83% of teams, the fifth-most. Hoge went -1 (70) on Thursday and replicated the feat on Friday. He had a birdie and two bogeys on the front nine. On the back nine, Hoge racked up three birdies and a bogey. He is 10 strokes off the lead.
Sepp Straka ($8,800; 35.5 FPTS) is rostered on 14.98% of teams. Like Hoge, went Straka went -1 (70) on both Thursday and Friday. The day started well on Friday with a birdie on the first hole but he finished the front nine with a bogey and a birdie. The back nine started with two straight bogeys before draining an eagle on Hole 16. Straka is 10 strokes off the lead.
