After a great week at Augusta that ended with Rory McIlroy earning a green jacket, the PGA TOUR heads to Harbour Town, where the tartan jacket is on the line as players battle it out at the RBC Heritage. Since this week is a signature event, it has a limited field and no cut. Even though the event will have a different feel without the cut sweat in Round 2, it’s a great week for fantasy golf. Earlier on Wednesday, I broke down my top three pivot plays for tournament lineups at the RBC Heritage in a companion piece to this post. The picks in both posts have upside and characteristics that set the up for success. The pivot plays for tournaments are more aggressive, while these three plays are safer options. While these options will likely have much higher ownerships, they still make good plays where your lineup being unique is less important. Think of cash game picks as laying back and playing a par 5 as it was designed with three shots before reaching the green looking for a solid birdie. Tournament picks are doing driver off the deck to try to reach the green in two–more reward if it works but much more risk as well.
So what do we mean by “cash games”? Usually, cash games pay to about the top half of entries. Typically, they are in the 50/50s & Double Ups or Head-to-Head sections of the DraftKings lobby. In this format, it’s important to minimize risk and raise the floor of your entry rather than focusing too much on the ceiling. In cash games, finding low-ownership plays isn’t as critical since you’re just trying to finish in the top half of contests rather than finish at the very top of a GPP.
Last week, my cash game picks were Rory McIlroy, Corey Conners and Sepp Straka. While Straka hurt me by not making the cut, Rory and Corey both were outstanding plays in any format.
With those ground rules set up, let’s dive deeper into my top three cash fantasy golf cash game plays for this week at the 2025 RBC Heritage.
Scottie Scheffler ($11,100)
Scheffler is the defending champion at this venue as he can see from the snappy tartan jacket at the top of the post. He comfortably won the RBC Heritage last year even though he needed a Monday finish to play the last few holes of his victory due to inclement weather. Scheffler’s win last year was in the middle of a dominant stretch of victories like we have not seen in years. He seemingly won every week for a while last spring, and this victor was fourth win in his previous five starts.
This season hasn’t gone as smoothly for Scottie, but he is definitely starting to find his stride. He hasn’t won in 2025 but does have six top-25 finishes in six events with a runner-up finish in Houston and a fourth-place finish last week in his two most recent starts.
Over his last 30 rounds, Scheffler leads the field in Total Strokes Gained and Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green while ranking fifth in Strokes Gained: Approach. He’s been so close to winning lately and continues to be a fixture near the top of the leaderboard each week.
For cash games, his floor is as high as it comes, so it makes sense to pay up for him as long as you can find the right plays to work with his salary. Since I have him here in my fantasy golf cash game plays, I’ll make my other two picks from much lower on the salary structure.
Denny McCarthy ($7,900)
Based on his statistical profile, McCarthy makes a lot of sense on tight tracks like Harbour Town that emphasize accuracy and de-emphasize driving distance. It makes sense that the 32-year-old from the University of Virgian has been able to make the cut in five of his six career appearances at this venue with a pair of top-25 finishes and three in the top-30 in the last four years. (Even though there is no cut this year, it was a full-field, standard-cut event in the past.
McCarthy has also been steadily posting results this season. He has made the cut and played the weekend in each of his 10 events this year with six top-25 finishes. However, he only had one top-10 finish, which came at The Genesis Invitational. Last week at Augusta, he finished T29.
Over the last 36 rounds, McCarthy leads the field in Strokes Gained: Putting, and his hot flat stick has been what has held him in contention. He also ranks 11th in the field in Total Strokes Gained and 26th in Strokes Gained: Approach over that span.
McCarthy’s steady grind-it-out approach makes him a great option in your fantasy golf cash game plays for this week since he will likely post another solid result at such a reasonable salary.
Tom Hoge ($7,100)
Hoge has strong current form coming back to Harbour Town, and I like his potential to go low this week. He was T18 at the RBC Heritage last season, and he could have finished much higher if not for a disaster on the final hole that resulted in a quintuple-bogey nine that dropped him out of the top 10. He still posted his second top-25 finish in the last four years at the course, although he did miss the cut in his other two trips to the venue.
Hoge comes back to erase that memory of his last hole with some very nice momentum. He finished T3 at THE PLAYERS Championship, T5 at the Valero Texas Open, and T14 at the Masters last week.
His approach game has led the way to his success, and he leads this elite field in Strokes Gained: Approach over the last 12 rounds and ranks in the top five of Total Strokes Gained.
While he has more volatility than we would normally target in cash games, the format of the event mitigates some of that since he won’t miss the cut if there isn’t one. My only hesitation with Hoge this week is that he’ll be very popular and possibly too chalky for GPP success. However, high ownership isn’t a problem for fantasy golf cash game plays, so Hoge is a perfect play for that format.
