The PGA TOUR needed an extra day to wrap up THE PLAYERS Championship, but ultimately, Rory McIlroy ($11,500; 116.5 FPTS) claimed the win after a three-hole playoff with J.J. Spaun ($6,700; 101 FPTS).

After an exciting Sunday of action that ended with both players at -12 for the tournament (catch up with our live blog), the two players got things started on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. ET.

Rory birdied the first hole of the playoff, the par-5 No. 16, while Spaun managed only par after a wayward tee shot. On the famous island green, Rory landed safely on the green, but Spaun dunked his tee shot and ultimately ended up with a triple-bogey.

Even though Rory also got a bogey on the hole, he went into the par-4 No. 18 with a three-shot lead and won the tournament with a comfortable bogey on the final hole.

It was Rory’s 28th PGA TOUR career win and his second win of the season. He also won the AT&T Pebble Bead Pro-Am and finished in the top 20 at The Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational in his two other PGA TOUR starts this season. Rory will now set his sights on finishing his career grand slam with his ever-elusive win at The Masters in just under a month.

It was a tough near-miss for Spaun, who had a great week and how has three top-three finishes on the season. My colleague Alex Hunter highlighted Spaun in his value plays this week, and even though he didn’t quite get the finish he wanted, he still was a great DFS play.

In the $2.5M FANTASY GOLF MEGA MILLIONAIRE [$1M TO 1ST], Spaun was owned in 8.2% of lineups and Rory was in 12.0%. The winning entry in that contest came from ratedGTO and also included Akshay Bhatia ($7,000; 102 FPTS) and J.T. Poston ($6,900; 71 FPTS) who has strong results despite their very low ownership.
