DK Metcalf could be on the move, as news broke on Wednesday that the star receiver had requested a trade. Tom Pelissero reported that the Seahawks agreed to explore options for the 27-year-old receiver. Soon after that report came out, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported the Seahawks were seeking a first and third-round pick in exchange for Metcalf. On top of that, Metcalf is looking for a new contract with an AAV of $30 million per year.

The Seahawks retaining Metcalf and the Chargers are tied as the odds-on favorite. The asking price from the Seahawks, coupled with a steep contract, could prove to be too much for a trade. That said, he’s a two-time Pro Bowler at the age of 27 and has at least 900 receiving yards through six seasons. It’s no secret the Chargers are in the market for a receiver, even after striking gold with Ladd McConkey in the 2024 Draft. It’s the depth below McConkey that continues to be a problem, as Quentin Johnston hasn’t lived up to the hype.

The Patriots aren’t far behind at +350. You’ll likely see the Patriots linked to almost every big-name free agent over the next few months. They have the most cap space in the league to work with and are in the midst of a rebuild. The Patriots own the fourth pick in the draft, that should be considered too rich to use in a trade, even with the talent of Metcalf. Nonetheless, the Patriots have the means to do so if they choose.
