NBA Power Rankings: Cavaliers hold top spot amid seismic trade activity

As the NBA’s regular season winds down with just two months to go, followed by the thrilling prospects of playoff basketball, the landscape of championship contenders is becoming more apparent.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets have solidified their status as top contenders, each with a strong case for postseason success. Meanwhile, many teams are hot on their heels, eager to prove they belong in the conversation.

Amidst this competitive tension, the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors have made bold moves at the trade deadline to thrust themselves into the spotlight.

The Lakers have added Luka Doncic to their lineup alongside LeBron James, aiming for a high-impact duo that can challenge for the title. While the Mark Williams trade was rescinded, Los Angeles still has plenty of talent to make noise for the rest of the season before looking for another option at center this offseason.

Similarly, the Warriors have added Jimmy Butler to join forces with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, creating a trio with proven Finals experience. As the Warriors near a celebration on February 23 to retire Andre Iguodala’s jersey, they surely hope Butler can be another dynamic fit on the wing similar to past additions. These teams now face the critical challenge of swiftly integrating their new stars as the playoffs loom.
