Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout needs to have knee surgery and will be out for an undetermined amount of time, but it isn’t expected to be season-ending, per Alden Gonzalez. Trout is tied with Gunnar Henderson in home runs and has been one of the lone bright spots for the Angels.
Trout has played in all 29 games this season for LA. He is hitting .220, but with a .541 slugging percentage. The Angels haven’t done much around Trout to take the weight off his shoulders of carrying the team, and even with double-digit home runs, he only has 14 RBI. Trout has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and has only played more than 82 games in a year once since 2021. Los Angeles is only in fourth place in the AL West due to how horrible of a start he Houston Astros had, but with an injury to its best player, LA may head to the bottom of the barrel in the division.
With Trout sidelined, Mickey Moniak will likely kick over from right field to play center. The Angels may end up rotating players around their outfield so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jo Adell, Aaron Hicks or Luis Rengifo in center on any given day. Los Angeles’ top prospect Nelson Rada is an outfielder, but the 18-year-old is not close to major league ready and isn’t projected to make the bigs until 2026. The Angels could call up their No. 23 prospect, Jordyn Adams, to add outfield depth. He struggled in limited action at the MLB level last year but is hitting .235 with four doubles, a home run and seven RBI in 23 games for the franchise’s Triple-A affiliate.
