Life has three certainties — death, taxes, and another Aaron Rodgers sound bite after a Jets loss. Charlotte Wilder, cohost of Oddball with Amin Elhassan, joined Tuesday’s edition of GoJo and Golic to dive into the latest drama in the Jets’ ongoing soap opera.
The New York Jets suffered their ninth loss of the season on Sunday, falling to the Seattle Seahawks, 26-21, in yet another game where Aaron Rodgers failed to eclipse the 300-yard passing mark. After the game, a reporter questioned him about the team’s offensive production despite Rodgers being healthy. Rodgers, in an attempt to forgo his usual post-game finger-pointing, stated, “Well, there’s 11 guys on the field, you know, sometimes it’s my fault, you know, definitely multiple times today and then sometimes the details, aren’t there in some other spots too.”
In an attempt to make sense of his postgame remarks, Mike Golic Sr. noted that Rodgers blamed everyone but did not forget to include himself, so it wasn’t the usual one-sided argument. He added that it’s just a mess and every time Rodgers steps in front of a mic to speak, it becomes a headline. While he has thrown others under the bus in the past, at least this time he admitted some fault. Senior thinks that it is WILD that we’re still talking about this 3-9 Jets team but noted that with Aaron Rodgers involved, headlines are inevitable. Mike Golic Jr., on the other hand, has had it up to HERE with Rodgers and the Jets.
“I’m just so numb to this team,” he said. “They STINK! They’re a bad football team!”
He added that Jets are a poorly run organization, and Rodgers isn’t the quarterback he used to be. Rodgers is good for the media machine, but GoJo says from a leadership perspective, his remarks were unnecessary. But haven’t we waved bye-bye to the notion of competent leadership in the Jets organization a long time ago to begin with? He believes this is likely the end of the road until he starts a post-career podcast and that the Jets’ season has been over for a while now, and they’re not fun to watch or worth discussing anymore and talking about them feels like a waste of breath.
Charlotte encouraged the guys to take a different approach, seeing this as one of the greatest dramas the NFL has seen in a long time. Sure one might ask, why are we even talking about Aaron Rodgers? The Jets still have the same coach and the same GM, and guess what? They’ve been enabling him this entire time, trading for his buddies and letting him call the shots. She hilariously compares Rodgers to the guy in the hot dog suit guy from Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave, where Rodgers is looking around and saying, “We’re all trying to find the guy who did this,” while he’s the only one left. Yet, everyone else has been blamed or moved on, yet he still stands at the podium, saying, “Some of this is my fault… but also, some of it is on the guys who weren’t in the right place.” Charlotte concedes that you could argue this is a waste of breath, but it’s entertaining. It’s a wild drama fueled by Rodgers’ hubris, watching him double down and continue to play this role. She agrees with the crew that from a sports perspective, the Jets are terrible, but as someone who loves a juicy story, this is GOLD.

GoJo says it felt juicy a month and a half ago but at this point, we’re just rehashing the same old Jets storylines because the football itself has been so lackluster. There’s nothing new to add, and none of the drama feels fresh anymore. GoJo equates it to the later seasons of a sitcom, where they recycle old bits for cheap laughs.
Senior thinks this has reached peak Stugotz, with the co-host from The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz having the foresight to call this collapse coming — even before Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles injury four plays into last season. Senior says the Jets are a bad football team and while Charlotte highlighted the gossip-worthy drama surrounding the Jets, Senior emphasized their ineptitude, likening it to Deshaun Watson’s underwhelming performance for Cleveland — a shocking turn given his massive contract. Senior predicted a complete overhaul for the Jets, joking that it could even include Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos as the new owner. Nothing will surprise us anymore with the Jets.
Charlotte says part of what is fascinating about the whole situation to her is how the Jets allowed things to get to this point. Going back to the television show analogy, she likened the situation to the later seasons of Selling Sunset. She described how, even as the drama felt repetitive and contrived, she would still get drawn back in because she knew the characters and couldn’t resist the mess.
"There is drama and gossip to talk about with the New York Jets, but they are so inept as a franchise, and it's almost stunning.
