The PGA TOUR travels from Mexico to Bermuda this week for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Located in South Hampton, the Port Royal Golf Course (par 71, 6,828 yards, Bermuda greens) will host this event, which has been the home of the Bermuda Championship since this tournament’s inception in 2019. Camilo Villegas won this event last season at -24, which was two shots clear of the field and tied for the lowest winning score in the history of the Bermuda Championship. This week’s field consists of 120 golfers and there will be a standard top-65 and ties cut following the first two rounds.
Port Royal Golf Course is a short course that features narrow fairways, massive greens, 87 bunkers and water in play on seven holes. Being a tree-less venue located on the beautiful Bermuda coast, Port Royal is susceptible to wind, which is the track’s biggest defense.
Both long and short hitters can succeed at Port Royal and we should be seeking players in strong form with both their irons and putter. Villegas led his field in GIR during his win at Port Royal last season, and four of the five winners at this venue have finished the event top-15 in GIR. Furthermore, all but one of the five victors at Port Royal have finished the tournament top-six in PPR.
As a standard par 71, Port Royal features 11 par fours and six of those holes fall between 350-400 yards, making this the most crucial length of hole this week. Of the five winners at this track, four have finished the event top-five in efficiency on the 350-400-yard par fours of Port Royal.

Nate Lashley ($7,400): Lashley finished T35th in his lone start at Port Royal two years ago and the veteran should be in store for another solid finish this week. Lashley has made five cuts in a row, with a pair of top-30 finishes coming during this stretch, most notably with a T16 at the ZOZO Championship three weeks ago. Lashley has shot under par in 14 of his 20 rounds during this cut streak and his irons have been a big part of his success, with him gaining strokes on approach in three of these five starts.
Lashley also ranks 15th in 350-400-yard par four efficiency when we compare this field’s last 12 rounds, which bodes well for Port Royal, where six of the 11 par fours land in this range.
Seung-Yul Noh ($7,200): Noh has advanced to the weekend at each of the last three Bermuda Championships – including two finishes inside the top-35 – and returns to Port Royal in convincing form. Between the PGA TOUR and the Korn Ferry Tour, Noh has made six of his last eight cuts, with three top-20 finishes coming during this span.
Noh ranks third in 350-400-yard par four efficiency when we analyze this field’s last 24 rounds, and he arrives at Port Royal 199 spots higher in the world golf rankings than when he faced this track a year ago. Noh has top-25 upside this week and is a great bargain at this cheap salary.
Garrick Higgo ($7,100): Higgo closed out the World Wide Technology Championship this past week with an eight-under 64 at El Cardonal en route to a T6 finish. This 64 was one stroke away from tying the 25-year-old’s career-low, and Higgo has now made back-to-back cuts while gaining strokes on approach and with his flat stick at both events.
The UNLV product’s game is ascending right now and Higgo will look to carry this momentum over to Port Royal, where he has never missed a cut in two tries, with both finishes being top-35 results. Higgo is underpriced for his upside and is one of the best values available this week.
Lanto Griffin ($7,000): Griffin has made six consecutive cuts – including two top-30 finishes – and he has gained strokes on approach at all but one of these tournaments. The veteran ranks top-20 in both SGP and BOB% when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds, and he owns a 2-for-2 record in terms of made cuts at Port Royal, most notably with a T18 in his debut at the course in 2019.
Griffin was priced up to $7,900 for last year’s Bermuda Championship and is an awesome target at this low price point.
