Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Giants
Pick: Steelers -6 (-108)
Pennsylvania is a popular place these days. There’s a lot going on in the state. Steelers home games have been a part of the show. This is the third time in four weeks that the Steelers are playing in prime time. The crowds are fired up. Celebrities are showing up. The atmosphere is electric. Good luck, New York.
It’s hard to find a more confident or proud team. Even during tough times, the team believes. The city of Pittsburgh believes. Mike Tomlin never stops believing. He’s incredulous. He’s got a Steve Perry poster in his bedroom. The Steelers are always a tough matchup but with their confidence at an all-time high, they’re scary. It is the season to be spooky. Speaking of scary, look at this scary stat — the Steelers’ home record on Monday Night Football is 30-5 and they’ve won 21 in a row.
The win is in the bag but will they cover? The line opened with the Steelers -3.5 and moved to -6.5. It dropped back to -6, but -7 or higher could be the final spread. The Giants are outmatched but it’s the NFL. New York is a professional team. There is parity across the league. Underdogs of 5.5 points or more have been covering at an unbelievable rate and are winning outright. That’s a trend. Another trend, or established fact, is that the Steelers don’t mess around, especially at home on Monday night.
Pick: George Pickens Receiving Yards 100+ (+425)
Work smarter not harder. If another NFL article has a tip — especially if it’s from DK Network — take it. Steve Buchanan highlighted the Giants-Steelers game in his WR/CB Week 8 Matchups article. Before the plagiarism jeers, this tip was mentioned two weeks earlier in the Sunday Night Football Giants-Bengals breakdown. The tip is a well-known fact. What’s the tip? Deonte Banks is not a great cornerback.
The Giants’ former first-round pick has flashed brilliance at times. Most times, he’s a flash in the pan. Most of the passes that are thrown his way are caught. And they go for a lot. That’s what bettors are banking on with Banks. He allows a significantly high aDOT (average depth of target) and Pickens is one of the league’s premier deep threats. His 18.1 yards per reception led the NFL in 2023.
As predicted in the DK Network Week 7 SNF DFS Showdown Picks article, Pickens was one of the picks coming out of Week 6. That was because Justin Fields was coming out after Week 6. The arrival of Russell Wilson wasn’t Caesar crossing the Rubicon but it suited certain Steelers. The “Is Russ dust” debate will never end. The Russ dust will never clear. It will never settle. What is settled is that Wilson will never settle. Once a gunslinger, always a gunslinger. Fields kept the ball on the field. Wilson lets it fly — do or die.
Pickens caught five-of-nine targets for 111 yards in Week 7. That was with Jets’ star CB Sauce Gardner in coverage. He ran 28 routes and earned an elite 31% target share. Wilson was feeding him and Pickens was eating. The speedy deep threat should get more fast food in a softer matchup in Week 8.
