Captain’s Picks
Joe Burrow ($15,000 CP) — The season might be lost but the stats are not. Bad for Bengals fans, but good for NFL fans. The Bengals’ defense is awful. Joe Burrow is in shootouts every week. It’s fun. It’s been especially exciting when DraftKings NFL DFS rosters are a Bengals stack. This is a showdown slate. It can only be a stack and the stack begins with Burrow. The quarterback from Athens, Ohio, has passed for 948 yards and 10 touchdowns with a 75% completion rate in the last three games. The Giants have an above-average pass defense and they’ve played well against quality opponents. It won’t be easy for Burrow but it doesn’t have to be. The volume and raw stats will get the job done. The Giants have been better against the run than the pass. They’ve allowed one rushing touchdown this season compared to seven through the air. The Bengals will pass.
UTIL Plays
Darius Slayton ($6,600) — Rookie WR Malik Nabers’ breakout is on pause while he’s in concussion protocol. That hasn’t stopped the Giants from passing (fifth in pass attempts per game). Nabers’ neighbor stopped by and stepped up. Slayton caught eight passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in Week 5. Daniel Jones ($9,000) earned a 109.6 QB Rating in Week 5 — his third game with over a 100 QB Rating this season. The Bengals have allowed 10 passing TDs (third-worst) and rank in the bottom third of the league in passing yards allowed (1,070 passing yards).
Chase Brown ($8,600) — The Bengals’ 2023 fifth-round pick is on the verge of a breakout. Cincinnati is a pass-heavy team (top five in passing percentage) but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Defenses can’t stack the box. The Giants need to stack the box given their inability to tackle. They’re last in missed tackles and allow the second-highest rushing YAC (Yards After Contact). Brown could pop one at any time on Sunday night. Even if he doesn’t get a big one or maintain his 5.6 yards per carry, he’ll still have plenty of opportunities to score. The Bengals’ offense moves the ball. They get to the red zone. They pass a lot in this situation. When they do run, Brown gets the ball — 81.8% of the rush attempts in G2G.
Theo Johnson ($2,800) — Tyrone Tracy Jr. ($7,400) is priced up after a big Week 5 — 18 rushing attempts for 129 yards. The matchup also demands a price increase. The Bengals rank 24th in the NFL in rushing defense (132.4 rushing yards per game). Johnson is riskier but provides necessary savings on the Sunday Night Football Showdown slate. With Malik Nabers out last week, Johnson took on a bigger role in the offense. He caught all five of his targets for 48 yards. The Bengals surrendered 134 passing yards and three touchdowns to the Ravens’ tight ends in Week 5.
Fades
Tee Higgins ($9,400) — It might be possible to roster both, but that lineup will be full of punts or will not include Joe Burrow. Everyone has to make a stand. Is it Higgins or Ja’Marr Chase ($11,400)? The Giants’ former first-round pick Deonte Banks shut down DK Metcalf in Week 5. There’s a first time for every first time. The cornerback performed well against an elite receiver that is notorious for disappearing at times. Chase doesn’t disappear. Unless disappear means streaking down the field like the road runner and leaving the defense in his dust. Banks is familiar with that dust. He’s been dusted by most of the elite receivers he’s shadowed this season. Higgins draws a much more favorable matchup in CB Nick McCloud — ranking 153 of 179 cornerbacks, according to Pro Football Focus. Both are tremendous DFS picks, but there’s a salary cap and Chase always has more upside due to his explosive nature. Chase Chase. Fade Tee.
THE OUTCOME
Sunday Night Football launches two epic evenings in the Empire State. Three New York NFL teams and two MLB teams will be in action across two nights. The New Yorkers could win them all — could win them all. They won’t. Burrow and the Bengals are desperate. Their offense is getting better and their defense couldn’t get any worse. It’ll be a shootout, but when the dust settles, it will be the Bengals sitting atop the Empire State Building.
