UPDATE: McBride (ribs) is expected to play Sunday vs. the 49ers, per Adam Schefter of ESPN
The Cardinals are on the road in Week 5 against the 49ers after losing back-to-back home games to the Lions and Commanders. It looked like they would get some help from the return of Trey McBride ($5,900), who cleared the NFL concussion protocol after missing Week 4’s loss to Washington. However, on Saturday, McBride was downgraded to questionable due to a rib issue.
McBride is my No. 3 TE this week in my start/sit rankings from earlier this week assuming he’s able to play through the questionable tag. If not, Elijah Higgins ($3,300) will get another start and could be a decent flier play.
This matchup isn’t ideal for McBride, since the 49ers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to the tight end position this season. However, he’s almost always a good play since he gets so many targets from Kyler Murray ($6,700).
McBride averaged 7.0 targets per game in his three games this season and totaled 14 catches for 122 yards. Since he gets so much work, he has a high floor even though the matchup limits his ceiling.
I don’t love McBride at his elevated salary for DFS contests like the NFL $3.25M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st]. He is the most expensive player in the position, which could make him a solid source of pay-up leverage since not many will be willing to pay all the way up for him in this matchup.
If you drafted McBride in season-long leagues, though, he remains a great starting play every week when healthy. If you’re looking to back him on DK Sportsbook, he’s +205 to score a touchdown and +115 to get 50+ receiving yards.
