The Browns have been without Njoku since he suffered a sprained ankle in Week 1 vs. the Cowboys. He was able to return to practice on Wednesday in a limited fashion and was back on the field Friday after a recovery day on Thursday. If he does return this week, is he an option you should consider for your fantasy team?
When he’s healthy and fully involved, Njoku has an immense ceiling. He had at least six catches in eight of the Browns’ last nine games last season, a run that extended to their playoff loss to the Texans. He had 90+ yards in four of those five games as well with four touchdowns.
Before suffering the injury in Week 1, Njoku hauled in 4-of-5 targets for 55 yards.
If he’s healthy, he’ll definitely be worth a spot in the top 10 of my start/sit rankings from earlier this week. I’d probably slide him in at No. 9 or No. 10, meaning he would start in most standard season-long leagues, but not over an obvious every-week play.
Njoku is a little pricey for DFS contests like the NFL $3.25M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st] at $5,000. He is the fifth-most expensive TE on the main slate, but the added risk of it being his first game back will likely keep his ownership low. The Commanders have also been good against opposing tight ends, which makes him a tough play in DFS contests.
Njoku is also on the board at DraftKings Sportsbook at +250 to score a touchdown if he’s able to play against Washington.
