DraftKings Showdown Value Picks
Brandon Aubrey ($5,800)
The “fantasy needs to get rid of kickers” revolution has continued to garner more steam as they continue to deliver standout performances. Brandon Aubtrey has been at the forefront of this bizarre trend, not just because of the star on the side of his helmet. The former Notre Dame soccer standout has been unconscious from beyond the midline, already nailing six kicks from beyond 50 yards.
His range has made him one of the most reliable starts in fantasy, as he’s the third-highest scorer on the Cowboys, averaging 15 points per game. It doesn’t matter the matchup—the 29-year-old will have ample opportunities because it feels like a sure thing when he lines up. With most players on the lower end of these teams’ depth charts struggling to even make the box score, Aubrey is a consistent option at a reasonable price tag.
Jalen Tolbert ($5,600)
If you had checked out my captain piece (please do), you would have seen my disdain for Dallas receivers who were not named CeeDee Lamb. With veteran Brandin Cooks out of the lineup with a knee injury, surely someone will step up so that Dak Prescott ($10,800) isn’t catching his own passes. Someone getting looks but failing to convert them into catches is 2022 third-round pick Jalen Tolbert.
Despite garnering 19 targets, the 6’1 wideout has only been able to corral 13. Tolbert has been converting his catches into first downs and consistently gets separation beyond the chains. In college, he was lethal down the field, but that part of his game hasn’t exactly materialized in the pros. The 25-year-old has the tools to be a serviceable WR2, and eventually, the talent will shine through. The volume is due for an uptick, and no one else in the receiver room particularly excites me.
Steelers D/ST ($4,000)
Perhaps my favorite start of the contest, the Steelers defense is a machine that elevates the group from a frisky, mediocre bunch to a legit playoff contender. Everything runs through the elite pass-rush tandem of Alex Highsmith and T.J. Watt, who swallow up opposing quarterbacks. Even with the former hurt, second-year standout Nick Herbig has seamlessly stepped in to wreak havoc on the outside.
The Cowboys‘ one-dimensional offense has struggled to keep its signal caller upright, surrendering ten sacks throughout the first four games. No matter who is in the backfield, the team can’t run the ball effectively, which is detrimental to the passing attack. If the best unit in the sport can hone in on one area, it could be a long night for Dallas.
