Tyler Lockett ($5,600)
Once one of the most reliable pass catchers in the game, Tyler Lockett might’ve lost a step, but he is still a savvy veteran worthy of monitoring. In his tenth season in the Pacific Northwest, he’s become lost in a crowded receiving room with younger, more exciting options grabbing the headlines. At 32, he’s still got some juice left in the tank, and his sluggish start has put his assigned salary too low not to exploit.
Lockett is a professional route runner who has made his money knifing through defenders after the catch to rack up extra yards. The Seattle passing attack is one of the most underrated units in the league, and if Geno Smith ($9,000) can stay upright, there are plenty of targets to go around.
Detroit’s defense is vulnerable over the middle, where Lockett does the bulk of his damage. After a pair of middling performances, I think they get the veteran involved early and often in a massive early-season showdown.
Noah Fant ($4,400)
Tight ends have been a disaster, and if you’re more interested in their sudden decline, check out my piece: “What’s wrong with Tight Ends?” It’s gone so bad to start that it’s time to buy the dip.
Noah Fant is another overlooked piece in a group that can score points in bunches. The former first-round pick has never lived up to that billing, with injuries and inept quarterback play hurting his development. A graduate of the Iowa tight end factory, Fant is a physical specimen with 4.5 speed.
With Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson switching squads this off-season, Fant is unquestionably first on the depth chart and is due for more opportunities. His frame makes him a dangerous red-zone threat, but he hasn’t found paydirt since 2022. At 26, he’s still young and talented enough to put it together and produce viable DFS outings.
Tim Patrick ($1,600)
A pair of lower-body tears derailed crucial years of Tim Patrick’s career. After bouncing around practice squads and seeing limited action, the San Diego native broke through in 2020, tallying 51 catches on 742 yards and six touchdowns. After a similar 2021 campaign, he missed two full seasons with training camp injuries before getting cut late this August.
The 30-year-old found a home in the Motor City and looks to have passed Kalif Raymond for WR3. The Lions love to run 12 personnel, which limits the number of times a third wide receiver is on the field. With the ariel attack struggling in recent weeks, I wouldn’t be surprised if offensive coordinator Ben Johnson opts to go to shotgun a little more to get Jared Goff ($9,400) into a rhythm.
With both teams having established hierarchies, Patrick is the one super-sleeper who can make an impact.
