With Thursday’s Patriots-Jets game in the rearview, it’s time to examine Sunday’s most popular NFL picks against the spread for Week 3 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
In Week 2, the following teams were the most popular NFL picks against the spread:
- Chargers
- 49ers
- Ravens
Despite each of those teams being the favorite, the Chargers were the only team in this bunch to win their Week 2 matchup. L.A.’s AFC also easily covered vs. the Panthers, winning 26-3.
As was the case ahead of Week 2, the three NFL picks against the spread we’re taking a look at for Week 3 are ranked in this article by the total number of bets that have been cast toward them covering their game’s spread.
No. 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Opponent: Denver Broncos
Opening Line: -3.5
Current Line: -6.5
It’s no surprise to see one of the two red-hot NFC South teams is the most popular betting option on DraftKings Sportsbook. (Spoiler alert: The other one will come up later.)
After giving room for a two-field-goal win with that opening 3.5-point spread, the current line requires a bit more from Tampa Bay. Given the offensive firepower they’ve displayed early, it doesn’t feel like a reach to expect the Buccaneers could win by seven or more.
However, the percentage of handle/bets splits indicate the sharps may be looking to the Broncos instead. While Tampa Bay has gotten 83% of the spread bets for this game, those bets have only accounted for 70% of this game’s spread handle.
No. 2: Las Vegas Raiders
Opponent: Carolina Panthers
Opening Line: -4.5
Current Line: -5
The Panthers find themselves on the wrong end of this article once again. But once again, their opponent is getting the majority of the spread while not getting an edge when it comes to handle.
The Raiders have seen 82% of the spread bets go their way. Those plays have accounted for 77% of the handle.
No. 3: New Orleans Saints
Opponent: Philadelphia Eagles
Opening Line: +3
Current Line: -3
This is an interesting one. The Saints opened as underdogs and have since flipped to 3-point favorites. Makes sense after the Eagles struggled on Monday while New Orleans’ offense is clicking on all cylinders.
It also adds up when looking at the handle/bets splits. While getting the majority of spread bets at 66%, 75% of the spread handle has gone toward the Saints covering in this one.
