There are two matchups in college football this weekend that feature a pair of top-25 teams going head-to-head, and only one of them is on Saturday. And here we are in Week 3, and that ranked matchup is none other than Boston College at Missouri. Let’s break this one down, with a matchup between an SEC powerhouse and a big surprise out of the ACC.

Boston College at Missouri
Saturday (12:45pm ET)
I believe I’m going to be passing on betting this actual game, but it doesn’t mean I don’t have some betting strategies you can incorporate, both for this game and futures. Both of these teams ended their season on a high note with Bowl wins as underdogs, and clearly have taken some momentum into 2024.
Missouri was somewhat of a dark horse in the SEC this season, with a win total set at 9.5 The Tigers haven’t allowed a point yet this season, but also have yet to be tested — defeating Murray State 51-0, and then Buffalo 38-0. The 2-0 Eagles will be a far tougher task, but we also have a lot to lean about BC. Boston College didn’t just upset Florida State on the primetime stage in Week 1, they dominated them. The Eagles lined up and stuffed it down the Seminoles’ throats, out-gaining them on the ground by 263 rushing yards to just 21 for FSU.
While I don’t expect BC to dominate the ground game in this road SEC contest, I do expect them to try. So if you think Boston College has any type of success and were thinking of backing them with the points in this game, I would also recommend playing or parlaying it with the under, which has correlation. On the flip side, if you are considering laying the points with Mizzou, you might want to think about a play on the over. This offense has been putting up big numbers, and BC would be forced to open it up and play catchup.
The bottom line is that I feel like I’m taking too much of a guess if I wager on this game. But I do think we are going to learn a lot from the result. Here are a couple bets to consider making in the meantime, one that can be placed now, and one on next week’s card. BC isn’t going to win this game, but I do think they are good enough to make noise in the lackluster ACC. I’ll buy on the Eagles to win the ACC at 40-1. The schedule sets up nicely for them the rest of the way, and maybe we find a nice hedge opportunity. You don’t have to bet much here to be able to find a way to profit if BC is in the mix to play in the game.
The ideal result in my mind for this game would be for Missouri to blowout BC. I think the Tigers are a really good team, so it would not mean that the Eagles can’t play, it would just mean they can’t compete on the road against the top of the SEC, which nobody can. Moving forward, it would not only maybe get us a better number on BC in the ACC, but a better number on their Week 4 matchup. The Eagles will host Michigan State in Week 4, who just had a nice road upset of Maryland.
This is a monster game for BC, as it’ll kickoff at 8pm ET next Saturday night in Chestnut Hill. It’s the “Red Bandana” game, which is an annual tradition that you need to look up if you’re not familiar. If MSU is getting any respect of that Maryland win, while BC takes a blowout loss leading up to this one, it could set up the perfect buy-low spot on the Eagles.
PLAY: BC to win ACC (+4000)
