As we shift gears to Week 2, Charlotte Wilder, co-host of Oddball, joined Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. on Tuesday’s GoJo & Golic to talk NFL superlatives from Week 1.
GoJo started the discussion by asking Wilder and Senior to pick the NFL’s Best Looking Team. Wilder highlighted the Patriots as not being the best-looking team but as the most surprising looking after their Week 1 win over the Bengals. She compared their transformation to a high school “glow up,” noting their impressive performance on both sides of the ball. Wilder also praised quarterback Jacoby Brissett for his emotional moment with Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo, marking a new era of Patriots football where showing emotion is embraced and the “We don’t have feelings, we just win” mentality has been softened.
On the other hand, Senior chose the Dallas Cowboys, who secured a 33-17 road victory over the Cleveland Browns. Despite the Browns’ impressive defense and the offseason contract drama in Dallas, the Cowboys delivered a standout performance. GoJo noted that both the Cowboys and Eagles are showcasing the elite tier of the NFC East. Charlotte commented on the significant gap between this upper crust and teams like the Giants, emphasizing the stark contrast in quality within the division. The Cowboys are +120 at DraftKings Sportsbook to win the NFC East.
GoJo credited the New Orleans Saints for the shellacking they put on the Carolina Panthers, winning 47-10. He mentioned their offense is not one you often seek out. However, it was great to see them dominant in Week 1.
The crew then shifted focus to the “Most Likely To Succeed” category, highlighting rookie wide receivers expected to bounce back after Week 1. Senior selected the Giants’ Malik Nabers, noting that despite his five receptions for 66 yards, Nabers will make an impact regardless of the Giants’ quarterback situation. Wilder spotlighted the Chiefs’ Xavier Worthy, who scored two touchdowns and, thanks to his 4.21 40-yard speed, is poised to elevate the Chiefs’ offense this season. GoJo highlighted the Bills’ Keon Coleman for his four receptions and 51 yards against the Cardinals. Although Marvin Harrison Jr. faced criticism for his performance against the Bills, GoJo remains optimistic, believing that Harrison Jr. will bounce back as the season progresses.
The final award of the segment was “Still Shaking the Rust Off” (Worst Return). Senior discussed Kirk Cousins’ performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he was sacked multiple times and threw two interceptions. Despite this, Senior remains optimistic that Cousins will bounce back, given the talent around him in Atlanta. Charlotte addressed the criticism of Tom Brady’s debut as an NFL analyst during the Cowboys-Browns game. She noted that while Brady faced some challenges, she and GoJo acknowledged the difficulties of being in front of the camera and making mistakes. Wilder said she believes Brady will improve as an analyst over time.
