The fall swing begins this week with the Procore Championship, which was formerly known as the Fortinet Championship. This event will be played at the North Course (par 72, 7,123 yards, Poa annua/bentgrass greens) of Silverado Country Club in Napa, California, which has been the home of this fall tournament since 2015. At Silverado CC last year, Sahith Theegala captured his first PGA TOUR victory at -21. This score tied for the lowest winning score ever at Silverado and was two shots clear of the field. The Procore Championship this week is hosting 144 golfers and there will be a standard top-65 and ties cut following the first two rounds.
The North Course of Silverado CC is a short parkland track that features narrow fairways, small greens, 53 bunkers, and water in play on two holes. We have seen both short and longer hitters win at Silverado CC. The primary ingredients for success at this scoreable venue are catching fire with both your irons and flat stick. Three of the past five winners at Silverado CC have finished the event top-12 in SG APP. For four consecutive years, the victor at this venue has ranked T16th or better in SGP. As a classic par 72 with four par fives, scoring on these holes is crucial at Silverado CC, with four of the past champions at this course finishing the week top-eight in par five efficiency. Furthermore, six of the 10 par fours fall between 400-450 yards, making this a range of holes noteworthy. Over the last five years, three of the golfers to take home the top prize at Silverado CC have finished the tournament top-seven in efficiency on the 400-450-yard par fours of this par 72.
Below, I dive into four of my favorite sub $7.5K DraftKings bargain plays for the Procore Championship.
Jacob Bridgeman ($7,400) – Bridgeman has produced seven top-25 finishes this season. Two of them have come in his last two starts, with a T19 at the 3M Open and a T12 at the Wyndham Championship. The Clemson product notably gained strokes on approach and with his putter at both these events, and he shot under par in all but one of his eight rounds during this stretch, including an 8-under 63 during the first round of the 3M Open, which marked Bridgeman’s career-low on the PGA TOUR. These last two starts alone have moved the 24-year-old up 23 spots in the world golf rankings. Bridgeman also finished T55th in his lone start at Silverado CC two years ago. Sitting 943 spots higher in the world golf rankings this time around and playing the best golf of his career, Bridgeman has top-10 upside this weekend and is an elite value play.
Hayden Springer ($7,300) – Disregard that Springer missed the cut in his first attempt at Silverado CC last year and roster him with confidence at this low price point. Springer’s irons have been outstanding, with him gaining strokes on approach at six events in a row. During this timeframe, the 27-year-old has made four cuts and he has flashed great upside, with a pair of top-10 finishes. Springer has moved himself up nearly 100 spots in the world golf rankings since he began this run with a T10 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the end of June. His tremendous ball striking should help him produce a strong finish at Silverado CC this week. On the DraftKings Sportsbook, Springer’s +7000 odds to win the Procore Championship are the best among all the players priced under $7.5K for DFS purposes.
Gary Woodland ($7,300) – Woodland had a rough start to his season, but the former U.S. Open champion has been playing consistent golf as of late, advancing to the weekend in eight of his last 10 starts. In his most recent outing, Woodland finished T28th at the Wyndham Championship while gaining strokes on approach and on the greens at Sedgefield CC. The veteran has now gained strokes with his irons at three straight events and he has only shot over par once in his last eight rounds. Woodland finished T64th in his only start at Silverado CC two years ago and he should outdo himself with a higher finish this weekend in his compelling current form.
Ben Silverman ($7,100) – Silverman has never missed a cut at Silverado CC in two appearances and his success at the par 72 should continue this week. The 36-year-old is coming off a missed cut at the Wyndham Championship, but he only missed the weekend by one stroke at that tournament. and prior to this, Silverman had made eight straight cuts, with three top-20 finishes during this run. Ranking eighth in SGP this season, the veteran has been a wizard on the greens and he also ranks 12th in 400-450-yard par four efficiency when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds, setting Silverman up perfectly for his return to Silverado CC this week.
