Jason Fitz talks AP Top 25, ‘trash’ Colorado defense with GoJo and Golic

The NFL might be returning this week, but let’s not forget about the college game either!

Week 1 didn’t disappoint, delivering a flurry of highlights and viral moments that set the tone for the season ahead.

On Wednesday’s edition of GoJo and Golic, friend of the show Jason Fitz of Fox Sports Radio and Yahoo Sports joined the Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. to share his thoughts on the latest AP Top 25 poll and what lies ahead in Week 2.

GoJo kicked off the segment by asking Fitz for his impressions of the Week 2 Top 25 poll, focusing on what stood out about the teams that rose or fell after Week 1.

Fitz was stunned that Penn State didn’t climb in the poll after their impressive 34-12 road win at West Virginia. Despite their dominant performance, the Nittany Lions remained at their previous No. 8 spot. Fitz noted the contrast with the Golics’ beloved Notre Dame, which jumped from No. 7 to No. 5 in the AP Poll following their road victory over Texas A&M. While Notre Dame was rewarded for defeating a top opponent, Penn State’s strong showing didn’t result in a similar boost.

One team not seen in the new Top 25 poll is Florida State, which has had a tough start to the season, losing back-to-back games. While the guys acknowledged that the quarterback position isn’t the sole issue for the Seminoles, it highlights how crucial having a strong quarterback is in today’s college football landscape. DJ Uiagalelei’s performance has fallen short of expectations, emphasizing that, just like in the NFL, a reliable quarterback is essential for success.

Looking ahead, one of this weekend’s most eagerly anticipated matchups is Colorado vs. Nebraska. At DraftKings Sportsbook, Nebraska is favored by 7.5 points over the Buffaloes. While Colorado defeated Nebraska, 36-14, last season, this year’s Nebraska team is revamped with freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola and key transfers bolstering their roster. Fitz predicts a different outcome this time, suggesting that Colorado’s struggles will likely stem from defensive issues rather than the offensive prowess of Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders.

Meanwhile in another anticipated matchup, both Senior and Fitz see Big Trouble ahead in the Big House for Michigan as it hosts Texas. The Wolverines are seven-point underdogs on DraftKings Sportsbook, but Senior actually sees things going WORSE for Big Blue and could easily see them losing by double digits. And Fitz actually sees Michigan entering into Clemson territory.
