NFL Awards predictions: GoJo and Golic share early picks for NFL honors

We’re just two days away from the kickoff to a new NFL season!

On Tuesday’s edition of GoJo and Golic, the guys did an early deep dive into NFL season awards for the upcoming season, with Charlotte Wilder joining the conversation to share her insights as well.

As Week 1 approaches, all eyes are on this year’s NFL rookie draft class. Last year, the Houston Texans ushered in a clean sweep with Rookie of the Year, with quarterback C.J. Stroud earning Offensive Rookie of the Year and linebacker Will Anderson claiming Defensive Rookie of the Year. This season, excitement is high with three rookie quarterbacks making their debut: Jayden Daniels for the Washington Commanders, Bo Nix for the Denver Broncos and Caleb Williams for the Chicago Bears.

When asked who he picked to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, Mike Golic Sr. initially answered with three names: Williams, Daniels and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. He ultimately settled on Daniels, given his ability to run as a quarterback and how that can put pressure on defenses. Further, Senior strongly believes the Commanders are being undervalued this year, given Daniels’ talent. Daniels currently has +475 odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year at DraftKings Sportsbook.

The crew also gave their picks for Comeback Player. Mike Golic Jr. jokingly says he will take the bait and predicts Aaron Rodgers will bring the award home after his season-ending Achilles injury in his Jets debut last year. Even though Rodgers’ MVP days could be behind him, GoJo says the Jets signal caller could elevate New York’s offense. Rodgers has +140 odds to win Comeback Player of the Year at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Wilder, meanwhile, said GoJo was bold and shared her theory that Rodgers’ season may be cut short again by injury. She went on to say that the league selecting the Jets as one of the teams to be featured in the first Monday Night Football game of the season for a second year in a row may be shaping up to be an unfortunate omen for the Jets All-Pro QB. However, she hopes GoJo’s prediction comes to fruition with Rodgers winning the award. Senior said he believes the award will come down to either Rodgers or Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (+300).

To finish the segment, we got predictions on who will win this year’s MVP Award. GoJo thought it would be great if Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott took home the award. Prescott has +2000 odds to win MVP at DraftKings Sportsbook after finishing second in the voting last year and GoJo thinks Dak’s contract situation could serve as motivation. Imagine how people would react to a reigning MVP hitting the free agent market? Senior, on the other hand, made an MVP case for Kansas City Chiefs signal caller Patrick Mahomes. The KC quarterback has +475 to win the MVP on DraftKings Sportsbook and Senior highlighted the fact that three players have won the MVP award in the previous six years: Mahomes (twice), Lamar Jackson (twice) and Aaron Rodgers (twice).
