A Ma Maniére kicks off it’s “While You Were Sleeping” collection with the release of its latest collaboration on the Air Jordan 3 on the SNKRS app on Tuesday for a retail price of $225.
The “While You Were Sleeping” collection was announced last week and will consist of six pairs of sneakers to celebrate the 10th anniversary of A Ma Maniére, which along with sibling Social Status, has become one of the premier Nike collaborators. The Whitaker Group says the collection is “our expression of a decade’s commitment to classic, timeless luxury in service of culture, pouring purpose and passion into every detail of our actions and moments.” As always, the Whitaker Group is pairing this collection with storytelling, this time focusing on creativity, and specially creativity in the black community. The short film that ties into this collection will be directed by the Turner brothers and will release to theaters soon, according to the brand.
A Ma Maniére already had its release of this Air Jordan 3 collaboration last week, in the form of both a raffle and general release on the A Ma Maniére website. Now it’s time for the SNKRS app to have a drop. SNKRS notes that with classic, timeless luxury at its core, A Ma Maniére “continues to tell powerful stories on legendary retro silhouettes — returning with an elegant edition of the iconic AJ3.”
The Air Jordan 3 is one of the most popular Air Jordan models in the brand’s history, arguably the shoe that not only saved the brand but Nike itself when Michael Jordan was wavering on whether he wanted to stay with the Swoosh. That all changed thanks to Tinker Hatfield and the bold design that he dreamed up for the Air Jordan 3, which took into account several elements MJ had been looking for in his signature sneaker. The design is synonymous with its legendary elephant print, but similar to its previous take on the Air Jordan 3, there will be none to be found on this A Ma Maniére edition of the classic. Flat Pewter hairy suede replaces the elephant print on what SNKRS calls a premium black leather upper, which pairs nicely with a sail midsole and Violet Ore and Metallic Silver accents. The back heel tab features iconic “Nike Air” branding in the same sail color as the midsole and A Ma Maniére is felt once again in the quilted Violet Ore interior. The A Ma Maniére logo is seen embroidered on the left tongue, while the Jumpman logo is seen embroidered on the right tongue, with both tongues featuring a repeating pattern featuring the A Ma Maniére logo. Three sets of laces will be included with the sneaker — including black, sail and grey/flat pewter laces — and the whole package is wrapped up in a special 10th anniversary A Ma Maniére box.
As I noted above, this A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 3 silhouette already saw a release last week and was a relatively surprising easy W for many. As such, it currently is perhaps not quite as popular as past A Ma Maniére collabs on the secondary market, sitting with a $295 average sale price on StockX. But that’s OK. I think we need to get away from looking at resale price on the secondary market to determine whether a release is a success or if it’s even a “brick.” To my mind, it’s always a good thing when people are able to get the shoes they want for retail price. The sneaker community is at its best when people are stressed about getting the pairs they want and having to figure out how to swing exorbitant prices.
