Will Florida State repeat as ACC Champions, or will contenders like Clemson and Miami emerge?
ACC Network football analyst Roddy Jones joined Mike Golic Sr. and Mike Golic Jr. on Friday’s edition of GoJo and Golic to discuss who could compete with Florida State this upcoming season as they defend their ACC title.
Florida State kicks off Week 0 against their ACC counterpart Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, tomorrow morning. The Seminoles are a 10.5-point favorite against the Yellow Jackets at DraftKings Sportsbook. Florida State will look to repeat this year as ACC Champions and are +290 at DraftKings Sportsbook to repeat.
A player who will be essential to the Seminoles in Dublin and this season will be quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Jones believes that this could be Uiagalelei’s best year yet, which he ultimately credits to the offensive intelligence of Florida State head coach Mike Norvell.
Norvell has built a reputation around utilizing multiple running backs and building productive offenses. According to Jones, Norvell will lean on the experience of Florida State’s offensive line, creating opportunities for DJ to play to his strengths, utilizing his strong arm for big plays down the field. DJ currently has +4000 odds to win the Heisman Trophy at DraftKings Sportsbook.
The guys also received insight from Jones on who he believes can challenge Florida State in their quest to repeat as champions. He suggests that everyone watch Clemson (+350) and Miami (+400) as potential challengers. Jones points out that Clemson is his selection to actually overthrow Florida State and win the league. Given the NFL talent, the Tigers’ defense will be a key strength.
A team very familiar to both GoJo and Senior, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish could be a threat to the ACC’s bid to have multiple representatives in this year’s 12-team college football playoff. During the season, Notre Dame faces both Florida State and Louisville, which could impact those teams’ outlooks in the playoff picture. Florida State has +140 odds to make the playoffs, while the Cardinals are +450 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
