As expected, the Commanders will waste no time starting the Jayden Daniels era. The No. 2 overall pick from last year’s NFL Draft was named the starter on Monday by new head coach Dan Quinn.
Daniels looked excellent in the preseason following up a strong Preseason debut with another great game on Saturday against the Dolphins. He completed 10 of 12 attempts in that game against the starting Miami defense. He finished with 91 passing yards and looked very comfortable in Washington’s offensive scheme:
Daniels will make his NFL debut for the Commanders in Week 1 when they take on the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay. Washington are currently 3.5-point underdogs in that contest on DraftKings Sportsbook, where the over/under is set at 41.5.
In Week 1 DFS contests, including the NFL $4M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st], Daniels is only $5,700 and should be a good value. His dual threat as both passer and rusher gives him a very high ceiling and makes him an attractive option, although the Bucs defense is typically stout against the run.
In the big picture, Daniels is +475 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year and +190 to lead all rookie QBs in passing yards. For both those bets, he has the second-shortest odds behind only the Bears Caleb Williams. Interestingly, Daniels is also +450 to lead all rookies in rushing yards, giving him the second-shortest odds in that category as well, behind only Jonathan Brooks.
There are also some fun Daniels props on the Commanders Team Specials market including Daniels to have 400+ Pass Yards in any Reg Season Game at +450 and the Commanders to Score 1+ TD in Every Reg Season Game (17 Games) at +250.
Big picture, Washington’s over/under for wins this season is 6.5, and they are +250 to make the playoffs.
