Jayden Daniels impresses in Preseason Week 1

Jayden Daniels impresses in Preseason Week 1

One of the most exciting parts of NFL Preseason is getting our first look at rookie QBs with their new NFL teams. On Saturday, it only took one drive for No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels to get his supporters hyped with a strong showing for the Commanders.

Daniels started and threw an incompletion on his first attempt but then launched this deep ball to Dyami Brown, who hauled it in for a nice 42-yard completion.

After a few running plays and a short completion to Terry McLaurin, the Commanders faced 1st & goal from the two-yard line. After a false start and another running play, Daniels attempted his only rushing play of the game and walked into the end zone for his first NFL Preseason touchdown.

Daniels was replaced at the start of the next Commanders’ possession by Marcus Mariota, so the sample size for his first NFL action was ridiculously small. However, he did impress and finished with 2-for-3 with 45 yards passing and that three-yard touchdown run. He only had 8.1 fantasy points in this performance but demonstrated the high ceiling he’ll bring once the games actually count.

Right now, Daniels is being drafted as the 12th QB off the board in Best Ball contests on DraftKings with an ADP of 99.8. He’s going ahead of fellow rookie Caleb Williams and proven fantasy performers like Kirk Cousins, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert. The main reason he’s going so high is the rushing upside he brings, which he showed off a little in his Preseason debut.

For Week 1 DFS contests, Daniels costs $5,700 in the Commanders’ matchup on the road against the Buccaneers. Washington is currently +3.5 for that Week 1 matchup.

If you’re in on Daniels for a big season, you can head to the DraftKings SportsBook and find several ways to bet on the young signal-caller. He is currently +500 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, +250 to lead all rookies in passing yards and +400 to have over 400 passing yards in any game this season. If you think Daniels has what it takes to get the Commanders back to the postseason, they are currently +260 to make the playoffs and +800 to win the NFC East.
