The FedEx Cup Playoffs continue this week with the BMW Championship. This event has been hosted at many different courses and for the first time, the BMW Championship will be played at Castle Pines Golf Club (par 72, 8,130 yards, bentgrass/POA greens) in Castle Pines, Colorado. From 1986-2006, this mountainside track hosted an annual PGA TOUR event named the International. For this week’s BMW Championship, only the top-50 players in the FedEx Cup standings will be competing and after this playoff tournament, only the top-30 golfers in the standings will advance to the TOUR Championship at East Lake, which will conclude the FedEx Cup Playoffs and PGA TOUR season. Of this week’s 50-man field, only Adam Scott and Jason Day have previously competed at Castle Pines.
Castle Pines was designed by Jack Nicklaus and is longest course that has ever hosted a PGA TOUR event. The track also features thick rough, small greens, 77 bunkers and water in play on 10 holes. The extremely high elevation of Castle Pines will naturally give every player extra distance this week, but we should still be targeting strong drivers of the golf ball at Castle Pines, as being long and accurate off-the-tee will certainly be an advantage at this unique venue. Targeting golfers who are in strong form with their irons is also a necessity at Castle Pines and with six of the 10 par fours on the scorecard falling between 450-500 yards, seeking players who are efficient on this length of hole is a sharp move.
Below, I dive into three of my favorite DraftKings bargain plays for the BMW Championship, that all cost less than $7.5K.
Taylor Pendrith ($7,300) – Pendrith travels to Colorado in convincing form. Coming off a T22 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, the Canadian has finished inside the top-25 in 10 of his past 13 starts. Pendrith has shot under par in nine of his last 12 rounds and he has collectively gained strokes on approach and with his putter in five of his last six starts. Furthermore, Pendrith ranks 15th in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and he has moved himself up a notable 54 spots in the world golf rankings since the start of the season. Pendrith’s salary simply doesn’t reflect how well he is playing right now and he should effortlessly outproduce this cheap price tag.
Will Zalatoris ($6,800) – Zalatoris made a big move up the FedEx Cup Standings with a T12 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, in which he gained strokes in every major category at TPC Southwind. Zalatoris was one of only seven golfers that gained strokes across the board at the tricky track and this was the first time in 13 starts that he has gained strokes in every major category, which is clear evidence that Zalatoris’ game is ascending right now. The 28-year-old has gained strokes with his driver in six of his last 10 starts and he has flashed upside at Nicklaus’ designs in the past, most notably with a T5 at Muirfield Village in 2022. Zalatoris is vastly underpriced for his +6500 odds to win the BMW Championship on the DraftKings Sportsbook and he is arguably the best value on the board at only $6,800.
Max Greyserman ($6,300) – Greyserman is a no-brainer at this near minimum price tag. The 29-year-old closed out the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week with a 7-under 63 in the final round – which tied for the lowest score of the event – and prior to this start, Greyserman had carded back-to-back runner-up finishes. The Duke product has finished T21st or better in five of his last eight starts and he has only shot over par twice in his past 28 rounds. Greyserman has quickly moved himself up 92 spots since the beginning of June and his +7500 odds to win the BMW Championship on the DraftKings Sportsbook are outstanding for his low DFS salary. To put this in perspective, Greyserman’s odds to win are the same as Alex Noren, who is significantly more expensive at $7,500.
