With the 2024 FedExCup playoffs beginning this weekend, the PGA TOUR released the 2025 Regular Season schedule for on Wednesday. Here’s what it looks like:
For the second straight year, the PGA TOUR is back to the season matching the regular calendar year. There is no more pesky wraparound confusion like there was for many years in the early 2000s. Also for the second straight year, the top players in the world will be included in limited-field “Signature Events” designed to draw all the top golfers in the world to the most well-known courses for chances at the biggest purses.
The 36-tournament regular season begins January 2 in Hawaii with the two-week “Aloha Swing,” now officially called the “Opening Drive.” The Sentry kicks off the season and is the first of the eight Signature Events. Signature Events will again offer increased FedExCup points and elevated purses.
The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, RBC Heritage, Truist Championship, the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, and the Travelers Championship join The Sentry as returning Signature Events with no new tournaments added or removed from this exclusive list. The one significant change on that list is the Truist Championship, which is the new name for what used to be called the Wells Fargo Championship. For 2025, the event will also be held on a new course, as first reported by Golf.com’s Jack Hirsh a week ago.
The only other major change in the PGA TOUR schedule is that the Memorial and the RBC Canadian Open swapped weeks at the beginning of June. The Memorial is now before the Canadian, returning to the regular sequence before the two flipped places in 2024.
As far as the major championships in 2025, the PGA Championship heads to Quail Hollow Club, the US Open returns to Oakmont Country Club, and The Open Championship is at Royal Portrush. Quail Hollow hosted the PGA Championship in 2017 when Justin Thomas claimed the win. Oakmont has hosted a record nine U.S. Opens, with the most recent in 2016 when Dustin Johnson won. It took 68 years for The Open Championship to go back to Ireland before 2019, when Shane Lowry won on his home soil, but the event is returning just six years later in 2025.
The FedExCup Playoffs remain the same format for 2025, with the only change being the venue for the BMW Championship, which will take place at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, where the event also took place in 2021.
This year’s version of the FedExCup Playoffs tee off this week, and Scottie Scheffler is the heavy favorite at +330 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Ludvig Aberg have the next five shortest odds, while defending FedExCup Champion Viktor Hovland is at +3000 to win this week.
