Boston-based brand CNCPTS is teaming up once again with fellow Hub-based brand New Balance to reach back into their shared archive and reference a prior collab on a new silhouette. The result of that collaboration will be the CNCPTS x New Balance 1906 “Hours and Days,” which releases today, August 2, at 11 a.m. ET exclusively on the CNCPTS website.
The 1906 “Hours and Days” is what CNCPTS is calling a modern interpretation reworking elements of the 2012 collaboration between CNCPTS and New Balance, the 999 “SEAL,” which itself took inspiration from the materials used to make shoes for the U.S. military.
“The CNCPTS 1906 release echoes back to the determination and consistency of the SEALs, but made for today’s culture,” CNCPTS says in a statement.
The campaign behind the “Hours and Days” 1906 is intended to compare the prospects of older and younger generations, with the goal of finding common ground. As such, the story behind the campaign focuses on two runners — Robert “The Raven” Kraft, who has been running eight miles on Miami Beach every day since January 1, 1975, and Tashawn Richards of New York a runner since age 11 who “pushes the limits of his mind and body by completing multiple marathons and leading group runs in the city.”
As far as the shoe itself, the 1906 is named after the year in which New Balance was founded. Continuing the popular trend of 2000s style mesh runners, CNCPTS highlights that 1906 is constructed with comfort features and performance technology, including New Balance’s N-ergy shock-absorbing outsole with a Stability Web for arch support, Absorb cushioning in the heel and an ACTEVA LITE midsole. The upper is made up of what look to be premium materials, including mesh, suede and plastic panels. It also features N-Lock technology, which is an integrated lacing system to provide optimal fit and support. This shoe will stand out thanks to its combination of colors, including tan, wheat, light green and “pacific”barely” blue — the same colors that were present on the 2012 999 “SEAL,” which the “Hours and Days” takes its inspiration from. The package is completed by an olive mesh tongue with tan suede elements and two sets of shoelaces, one tan and the other light green.
