After getting blown out in Game 4, the Celtics have another chance to close out the Mavs and earn Banner No. 18 tonight in Boston.

In an interesting twist, not only is Game 5 happening on 617 day (which happens to be Boston’s area code), but it is also 16 years to the day of the Celtics’ last NBA championship in 2008 against the Lakers.

So will history repeat itself tonight at TD Garden? Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. previewed Game 5 on Monday’s edition of GoJo and Golic.
Claudia points out that since 2005, teams that lost in the NBA Finals by 30 or more points are 4-0 straight up and 4-0 against the spread in the next game. The Celtics are currently 6.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, so should we cash it or trash it for the Celtics to cover and close this one out?
Senior is! He says this feels like one of those games where if it starts to get away from Dallas it could be another blowout. GoJo agrees, noting that while the Celtics were one of the league’s most prolific 3-point shooting teams in the league this season they struggled early in Game 4 to the tune of 3-of-9 on open 3-point looks in the first half. He thinks Celtics coach Joe Mazzula — who is all about ball, baby — will have an adjustment there and he doesn’t think Dallas’ defensive intensity can be maintained against this Celtics squad. He’s imagining that the Celtics will be back over 50 percent on open 3s and that will go a long way in sealing the deal for Boston.
Senior says he would be very stunned if the Celtics drop this game and have to go back to Dallas. Even as Kyrie Irving seemed to take yet another shot at Boston and the Celtics, referring to the Celtics “cult” and how he never bought into it which put him on the outs in Boston. Senior points out that Kyrie likely won’t have much to say about Boston as we’ll be moving on to next year while the Celtics will add Banner No. 18 to the rafters at the Garden. But the bottom line is he would be stunned if the Celtics don’t get the job done at home, while GoJo notes that the Celtics seemingly have everything going in their favor going into Game 5, whether or not Kristaps Porzingis makes an appearance or he gets to go into the summer not having to push the limits of his injury tolerance.
