Jazz hit a sour note with messy uniform rebranding spread out over several seasons

The Utah Jazz unveiled a new uniform rebrand yesterday afternoon that is a complete overhaul of their current black and neon yellow jerseys. However, this new look is going to be quite messy for the next few seasons.

To those scrolling on social media it looks like Utah is ditching their uniforms from this past season for these four, but that’s not exactly the case.

For those unaware, the Utah Jazz ditched their traditional color palette and uniforms in 2022 for a shocking out-of-place black and neon yellow design.

This new design was immediately panned by fans across the league and widely considered to be amongst the worst in the NBA. In response, the franchise tried to backtrack the idea and was looking for a way to get out of it. Two years later, here we are.

For this upcoming season, the Jazz will still be wearing the white “Association” uniforms they have worn for the last few years. This is where things get more confusing.

  • From the start of the season, until January 1, 2025, Utah will be wearing its previous “Statement” jerseys from last season. From January 1 onward, the Jazz will replace that with the new black “Statement” jerseys featured in yesterday’s announcement.
  • The purple “City” edition worn by Lauri Markanen will be used only in the 2024-25 season.
  • For the 2025-26 season, the Black statement uniform that debut on 1/1/25 will remain, while the other two white and purple uniforms will become the team’s new “Icon” and “Association” uniforms, better known as the traditional home and away.

For those looking for some clarity, SportsLogos.net helped illustrate the change.

Personally, this is all too confusing and the state of uniforms in the NBA has been messy. Keep it simple, there’s no need to make it this messy and roll this out piece by piece over several seasons.

In a similar fashion, the Los Angeles Clippers unveiled their 2024-25 uniforms during the middle of the 202-24 NBA season.

Don’t get me wrong, these four uniforms are beautiful, and could arguably be the best in basketball, but there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. Just wait and start completely fresh in 2025.
