Is this the time for the Celtics to make the final leap?

The Celtics won a nail-biter on Tuesday, as they rallied late to force overtime and defeated the Pacers, 133-128, in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Drew Carter, the new voice of the Celtics who will be taking over full-time next season for the legendary Mike Gorman, joined Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. on Wednesday’s edition of GoJo and Golic.

GoJo points out that it was really a tale of two cities between the end of the fourth quarter and the overtime period for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. So how does Drew assess whether or not the Celtics dynamic duo can beat the charges that they come up small in the clutch?

Drew points out that in each of the previous rounds, the Celtics put up one sort of stinker in the first two games, thus he thinks the Pacers missed their chance in Game 1. He says that game was right there for them, up by 3 with 10 seconds remaining. And they lost. Something which Senior attributed to the Pacers just vomiting all over themselves earlier in Wednesday’s show.

Drew says Jaylen Brown stuffing Pascal Siakam into a proverbial locker and taking his lunch money has been an ongoing theme, although he is more used to seeing over an entire game rather than just one play which turned everything around like Tuesday night’s big 3 in the corner to force OT. Drew says to lose a game on the road against the best team in the league like that has to sting.

The conversation around the Celtics over the last several years has been the failure to take the next step and bring Banner No. 18 to Boston. Senior wonders if the Celtics win the title this year if it will be more of a feeling of relief rather than a feeling of joy. Drew says the team is so stacked and has so much playoff experience that this is their time to make that leap. And he invokes several legendary names in basketball history to put his point into stark relief.
