Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) looks to extend his reign as undisputed super middleweight champion when he takes on upstart challenger Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) this Saturday, May 4. This bout will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Main card coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET on DAZN and Prime Video PPV. They’ll be plenty of headlines coming into the main event, as Canelo-Munguia have projected ringwalks around 11:15 p.m. ET.

Alvarez displayed some fire leading into the fight, exchanging verbal jabs with former promoter Oscar De La Hoya at a press conference. Whether he uses it as motivation or not, Canelo seems poised to make a statement come Saturday. His last three wins have come against Jermell Charlo, John Ryder, and Gennady Golovkin.

Munguia gets the big fight opportunity and the 27-year-old has some serious power behind his punches. The previous WBO light middleweight titleholder turned professional in 2013 at the age of 16. Notable wins for him include victories over John Ryder, Takeshi Inoue, and Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Canelo comes into the bout as the favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook. He is a -525 favorite while Munguia is a +380 underdog. The favored method of victory is Canelo by decision (-105).

Round 1: Munguia 10-9

Patient start but the ring is full of tension. Munguia tries a swift left but it’s blocked. Munguia aims to Canelo’s body and the two clench. Left hand upstairs followed by a right to the body from Canelo. Munguia fires back a combination of his own. More of the aggressor was Munguia.

Round 2: Canelo 10-9 (Canelo 20-18)

Jab from Munguia snaps Canelo backwards. Munguia with another nice combination. One-two from Canelo. Munguia aims for the head but Canelo avoids all of his punches. Canelo fires back a late right hand.

Round 3: Munguia 10-9 (Canelo 29-27)

Jab followed by a right hand and Munguia connects nicely. Now a double left hook lands for the challenger, he’s in control. Canelo counter right uppercut. Left hook from Canelo. Munguia pressures Canelo into the corner. Munguia with a swift right hand followed by a great uppercut. Precision and power snaps Canelo’s head back.

Round 4: Canelo 10-8 (Canelo 39-35)

Munguia with tons of energy and snaps a nice early combination. Wild uppercut misses for Munguia. Canelo shoots back a nice right. Munguia walks Canelo towards the ropes. Right hand from Munguia and a big time counter uppercut from Canelo! Down goes Munguia for the first time in his boxing career. Canelo seemingly walked him to sleep and what a punch!

Round 5: Canelo 10-9 (Canelo 49-44)

Munguia trying to land but seems to be abandoning the jab at this point. Right to the body from Canelo. Sweeping left hand from Canelo and you can see the sweat fly from Munguia’s head. The high level defense of Canelo starting to kick in.

Round 6: Canelo 10-9 (Canelo 59-53)

Another left hook rocks Munguia and Canelo in control. Left hand to the body of Munguia from Canelo. Jab upstairs followed by a straight right splits the guard of Munguia. Canelo inching closer to a potential KO.

One-two combination from Canelo and that final right was a big punch. Munguia with a nice series of punches. Canelo sneaks in an uppercut.

Round 11: Canelo 10-9 (Canelo 107-101)

Straight left jab from Canelo to start the round. Munguia showing a lot of heart, still pressing forward. Canelo tries a combination but Munguia avoids his punches. One last body punch from Canelo.

Round 12: Canelo 10-9 (Canelo 117-110)

Munguia needs a knockdown and he comes out firing. Canelo ducks a couple of Munguia punches. Massive right hand and Munguia felt it. Counter left hand for good measure and Canelo in cruise control. Counter right and a straight left, this one is all Canelo.
