Canelo Alvarez didn’t enter as the champ on Saturday night, but he sure fought like he was.
The Mexican veteran has reclaimed the WBC super middleweight championship after defeating the previously undefeated Christian Mbilli via unanimous decision (115–112, 116–111, 117–110) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It was a triumphant return for Alvarez (64–3–2, 39 KOs), who hadn’t fought since losing all his belts to Terence Crawford in September 2025.
Mbilli (29–1–1, 24 KOs) persisted with solid forward pressure, but the younger champion seemed far too timid to fully commit to his shots and let his hands go against the formidable challenger. Alvarez leaned on his title-fight experience and exceptional defense to stay out of harm’s way and cruise to the finish line. The challenger was so comfortable in the ring that he even urged Mbilli to step on the gas multiple times.
