Live results: Oscar Valdez wins TKO-7 over Liam Wilson (2:48) Valdez wins WBO Interim junior lightweight championship

A marquee fight in the junior lightweight division between Oscar Valdez and Liam Wilson takes place on Friday, March 29. The WBO interim junior lightweight championship bout gets going at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. ESPN+ has live coverage of the fight starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Valdez is a previous two-weight world champion, serving as both WBO featherweight and WBC super featherweight titleholder in his career. After a perfect 30-0 start, he suffered his first loss to Shakur Stevenson in 2022. After beating Adam Lopez in his next fight, Valdez would lose again to current featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete in August 2023.

Wilson also lost to the hands of Navarrete in a title fight. Last February he scored a fourth-round knockdown of Navarrete, but would later lose the bout by stoppage in the ninth. Despite that outcome, Wilson remained busy and won his next two fights in 2023.

Valdez comes into the bout as the favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook. He is a -350 favorite while Wilson is a +265 underdog.

Round 1: Wilson 10-9

Wilson steps forward to Valdez and landing early. Left hand from Wilson connecting well and some swelling already on the face of Valdez. Valdez shoots back some nice punches to the body of Wilson. Wilson showing good ring presence and applying more pressure.

Round 2: Valdez 10-9 (19-19)

Valdez looks more comfortable this round. Nice counter from Valdez and noticeable cut on Wilson’s nose. Much better round for Valdez lands nice to the body of Wilson as well.

Round 3: Wilson 10-9 (Wilson 29-28)

Back and forth fight, now it seems Wilson’s turn to land. Nice left counter from Wilson as Valdez misses to the body. Another solid punch from Wilson, this time an uppercut. Yet another left hand connects for Wilson.

Round 4: Valdez 10-9 (38-38)

Valdez opens up with a nice one-two. Wilson shakes it off but those punches were sharp. The two continue to exchange at range. Low shot from Wilson nearly a low blow, Valdez walks off the punch. This one has become a slug fest each fighter standing toe-to-toe.

Round 5: Valdez 10-9 (Valdez 48-47)

Valdez now avoiding Wilson’s forward attack. Slower pace in Valdez favor and a sweeping left counter from Oscar. Seems like he’s luring Wilson in and allowing him to over punch a bit.

Round 6: Valdez 10-9 (Valdez 58-56)

Wilson’s offensive attack losing some steam. Valdez content with keeping it close between the two and landing some nice counter uppercuts. Wilson must avoid these type of counters. The experience of Valdez starting to show as he continues to lure Wilson into the counter left hand.

Round 7: Valdez TKO

Wilson now landing a counter uppercut of his own to start the round. Huge right from Valdez and Wilson stumbles. Valdez pouring it on and Wilson backing up with no type of offense. Valdez wins! The referee has stopped this fight.
