Nike Attack x Cactus Jack: Sneaker Release Date, Price, Where To Buy

Travis Scott is back with another Nike collab on Tuesday, this time taking it back to the 1980s with his version of John McEnroe’s Nike Attack.

I already wrote about the Nike Attack when it first returned back in June and then when Social Status dropped the first of their colorways In July. Of course, the Attack was once known as the Mac Attack and was the signature sneaker of long-time Nike athlete John McEnroe when it was released in 1984. Nike has been utilizing McEnroe some in the marketing for this year’s revival of the Attack, and turned it up a notch for the Cactus Jack edition. Nike, perhaps in a nod to a softer-than-expected reception for the model in general to this point, ran a viral marketing campaign on social involving a “beef” between McEnroe and Scott.

Clearly, this was done to get people talking about the forthcoming collab, even if it was clear that it was all staged, and on that front, they succeeded. Was it necessary on a Travis Scott collab? Probably not, but maybe Nike has been getting spooked a bit by soft sales this holiday season of other expected hits like the Air Jordan 1 Royal Reimagineds.

Scott, along with LeBron James, has been seen in the 1980s tennis model in recent years and was clearly part of the impetus to bring the model out of the vault for the first time in decades. The Cactus Jack edition of the Attack has the same grey and black color blocking as the first Attacks to retro earlier this year, but also, of course, features Scott’s trademark reverse Swoosh on the lateral side as well as Cactus Jack branding on the heel. It feels a bit paint by numbers, to be honest, but that doesn’t mean that the shoe doesn’t look great.

As noted above, Nike decided to go the extra mile in hyping these up and I wonder if it has to do with the reception the shoe has gotten since returning to shelves earlier this year. None of the colorways have really broken out to this point, at least as evidenced by average sale price on StockX, with even the Social Status collabs selling either right around retail or even in at least one case below retail. However, it should be noted that the Cactus Jack edition of the Attack does have the current highest average sale price on StockX of all the Attacks at $514 on 192 sales, good for a price premium of 238%.

We’re an interesting time in the sneaker world. The pandemic bubble seems to have definitively burst, with even previous guaranteed hits that would have resold for a multiple of retail price struggling to move as we bring 2023 to a close. That said, Travis Scott has remained one of the most popular figures in the shoe game and should likely deliver the final major hit of the year, even if there is little difference between the Cactus Jack Attack and the earlier grey/black colorway.
