Every MLB is scheduled to be in action on Wednesday, May 8. The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics are playing a doubleheader, pushing the day’s game total up to 16. This gives bettors even more lines and matchups to look through, trying to find an advantage. With that in mind, here are our best MLB player prop bets for Wednesday’s games, with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Teddy Ricketson’s 2024 MLB Player Prop record: 41-33-5
Tuesday recap (3-0-1): Zac Gallen had no trouble against the Cincinnati Reds, striking out six over six scoreless innings. Reynaldo Lopez got a little wild at the end of his start against the Boston Red Sox but was able to finish with five strikeouts, hitting the alt. line of 5+ that we took instead of his regular 5.5 strikeout line. Dakota Hudson struggled with his command, walking five in 3.2 innings and easily clearing his 2+ walks allowed alternate line. I tried to show hitters some love by taking Amed Rosario 1+ hits, but he didn’t have a plate appearance, so that bet was a push.
MLB player prop bets: Wednesday, May 8
Jordan Hicks, over 3.5 strikeouts (-210)
Hicks and the San Francisco Giants will take on the Colorado Rockies in the second game of their brief two-game divisional series. San Fran starter Kyle Harrison dominated Colorado on Tuesday and struck out two over seven scoreless innings. Hicks, known for his plus-fastball, should be able to tally punch-outs better. The Rockies average the second-most strikeouts (9.91) per game, giving Hicks a ton of upside with this line.
Spencer Arrighetti, 4+ hits allowed (-205)
Arrighetti and the Houston Astros are trying to turn their early-season woes around in game two of their series against the New York Yankees. He will be making his fifth start of the season and enters with a 0-3 record and an 8.27 ERA. Arrighetti has allowed 22 hits in 16.1 innings, including at least four hits in each start. New York has been on a little bit of a tear recently and has tallied eight, six, nine, two and four hits against starting pitchers in its last four games.
Jose Altuve, over 0.5 hits (-250)
Altuve heads into Wednesday’s game against Carlos Rodon and the Yankees 8-27 against the southpaw. He has two doubles and a home run against Rodon but also five strikeouts. Bright spots have been hard to come by for Houston, but Altuve is still hitting .336 on the season. He went hitless in the series opener but should be able to get back into the hit column on Wednesday.
