We all get to watch the best pitcher in baseball tonight. His name is [checks notes] …Luis Gil ($10,800)? That’s not a sentence I was expecting to type in 2024, but it may not be that far from the truth at this point.

Shota Imanaga, Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox, $10,600 – Regression hit Imanaga hard in his last outing, as the rookie surrendered seven earned runs to the Brewers. For context, that was more earned runs than Imanaga had given up in his first nine MLB starts combined. As such, Imanaga’s overall numbers are still pristine and I expect he’ll get back on track this evening. The 30-year-old is in possession of a 2.99 xERA and a 15.2% swinging strike rate that is the second-highest mark of any pitcher with 50 innings thrown. Conversely, the White Sox are by far the worst offense in baseball, sitting dead-last by a wide margin in both wOBA (.271) and wRC+ (74).

Spencer Arrighetti, Houston Astros vs. St. Louis Cardinals, $6,700 – Things did not start well for Arrighetti at the MLB level, yet the 24-year-old appears to be figuring it out. The RHP has pitched to a 3.63 ERA and a sterling 2.29 FIP across his last four outings, a span where Arrighetti also owns a 27.7% strikeout rate. Walks remain an issue, but Arrighetti’s potential is finally translating into results. He should no longer be this inexpensive as an asset, especially in a matchup with the Cardinals. St. Louis comes into Tuesday ranking 19th in wRC+ (97) and 23rd in ISO (.137). The team is nothing special with the bats.
INFIELD
Stud
Spencer Steer, Cincinnati Reds at Colorado Rockies, $6,000 – This is a hefty price to pay for Steer, but after yesterday’s offensive explosion from the Reds, I suggest you find the salary. Also, while Steer hasn’t been amazing in 2024, the 26-year-old was a force against left-handed pitching in 2023, posting a .928 OPS within the split in 180 plate appearances. Ty Blach ($5,000) and his 4.88 xERA aren’t exactly the most imposing southpaw, either.

Ryan McMahon, Colorado Rockies vs. Cincinnati Reds, $5,200 – The Reds aren’t the only lineup that will benefit from the altitude in this matchup, as the Rockies will square-off with the struggling Frankie Montas ($6,000) at Coors. LHBs have been Montas’ biggest issue in 2024, with left-handed opponents combining for a .380 wOBA. McMahon is left-handed and, frankly, Colorado’s best overall hitter. The veteran is batting .284 with a 125 wRC+ across his 250 plate appearances this season.

Ha-Seong Kim, San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Angels, $4,000 – Kim is heating up at the plate with seven hits (five for extra-bases) in his last five games. The former KBO standout has always been at his best when facing a left-hander, particularly last season, when Kim hit .302 with a 148 wRC+ within the split. On Tuesday, the Padres will be opposed by Patrick Sandoval ($7,000), whose 5.34 ERA is the sixth-highest mark among all qualified pitchers in 2024. Needless to say, I think Kim has an edge.

Connor Norby, Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays, $2,500 – The Orioles haven’t had the most luck this season calling up top prospects to play second base. We all remember the Jackson Holliday experience and, in his debut on Monday, Norby went hitless with a pair of strikeouts. Still, the 23-year-old managed a .223 ISO and a 127 wRC+ in Triple-A. He can hit, he’s incredibly cheap and, most importantly, he’ll be facing a Jays bullpen day. Toronto’s relievers currently sport the league’s worst FIP (4.84).
OUTFIELD
Stud
Aaron Judge, New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins, $6,400 – Obviously, we’ve reached the point where Judge is viable every day. However, this matchup feels particularly nice. Bailey Ober ($8,000) is a solid starter, yet he’s always struggled suppressing barrels and home runs. To wit, Ober’s 11.3% opponent barrel rate sits in the ninth percentile. He’s also conceding a whopping 2.12 long balls per nine to RHBs in 2024. That is not a formula for success against Judge.

Anthony Santander, Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays, $4,600 – Santander began the season in a slump, but he’s been far better over the last month of action. In fact, dating back to May 5, Santander has registered a .280 ISO and a 150 wRC+ in his 92 plate appearances. That includes seven hits and a pair of home runs in his last four games. Bowden Francis ($5,700), who will likely pitch the bulk of Toronto’s innings this evening, has surrendered four home runs in just 14.2 innings this season. Santander and the Orioles should thrive.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants, $4,000 – Gurriel has cooled since a red-hot beginning to the season, though a home run in each of his last two games might signal another blazing stretch is on the not-too-distant horizon. At the very least, it’s a good matchup on Tuesday. The D-Backs draw the left-handed Kyle Harrison ($8,100). In 72 plate appearances versus LHPs in 2024, Gurriel is hitting .333 with a 155 wRC+.
