Before the PGA Championship next week, the PGA TOUR is hosting the Wells Fargo Championship this week, which is one of the PGA TOUR’s eight signature events this season. The Wells Fargo Championship will be played at Quail Hollow Golf Club (par 71, 7,558 yards, POA trivialias greens) in Charlotte, North Carolina, which has been the main host of this event ever since it was added to the PGA TOUR schedule in 2003. A few notes regarding the past couple years: the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship was played at TPC Potomac while the Presidents Cup played at Quail Hollow that year, the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship took place at Eagle Point Golf Club while Quail Hollow hosted the PGA Championship that season, and the 2020 Wells Fargo Championship was cancelled due to the pandemic. Wyndham Clark secured the first PGA TOUR win of his career at last year’s Well Fargo Championship, finishing four shots clear of the field at -19. As a signature event, this year’s Wells Fargo Championship consists of 70 golfers and there will be no cut. All the PGA TOUR’s best players will be competing, except Scottie Scheffler, due to the birth of his first child. Before this year, the Wells Fargo Championship was always a full-sized event that featured a cut.
After making major renovations to the course in 1997, 2013 and 2016, Quail Hollow is classified as a Tom Fazio design. This track is the fourth longest course we have seen on the PGA TOUR this season and features large greens, 61 bunkers and water in play on only four holes. While bombers will have an advantage at Quail Hollow, it is safe to target average drivers as well as we have seen both short and long players win at this venue. To succeed at Quail Hollow, you first and foremost need to be in pristine form with both your irons and putter, with the last three winners at this track finishing the event top-12 in both SG: Approach and SGP. Elite par-four players also need to be a priority at Quail Hollow, specifically golfers who are efficient on 450-500-yard par fours, given six of the 11 par fours at this par 71 land in this range. Of the last five victors at Quail Hollow, four finished the week top-five in efficiency on the 450-500-yard par fours of this par 71.
Below, I break down four of my favorite sub $7.5K DraftKings value plays for the Wells Fargo Championship.

Tom Hoge ($7,200) – While Hoge has never finished better than T41 at Quail Hollow, he is having an excellent season and should produce a career-best showing at the famous track. Hoge has made 12-of-14 cuts this season with seven top-25 finishes. Specifically, the veteran has excelled at PGA TOUR signature events, with four top-18 finishes in five starts at these tournaments that feature the PGA TOUR’s best players. The main reason for Hoge’s success this season has been his ball striking. The 34-year-old currently ranks second in SG: Approach for the season, only trailing the No. 1 player in the world in Scheffler.
Hoge also ranks 10th in 450-500-yard par-four efficiency when we compare this field’s last 50 rounds, setting him up perfectly for Quail Hollow. Not only is Hoge a strong DFS option, he is an appealing bet for a top-20 finish this weekend, at +200 on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Chris Kirk ($7,100) – Kirk is on the heels of a T10 at the RBC Heritage, which, like the Wells Fargo Championship, is a signature event that features a world class field and no cut. During this finish, the veteran finished fourth in par-four efficiency at Harbour Town Golf Links. Kirk has now recorded three top-30 finishes in five starts at signature events this season, most notably with a win at the Sentry. Overall, the 38-year-old has tallied six top-30 finishes in 10 starts this season and he ranks second in par-four performance — only behind Scheffler.
Despite his awesome performance at the RBC Heritage, Kirk’s salary has dropped $600 since that finish and he is a terrific bargain at this low price point.
Rickie Fowler ($6,900) – Fowler is a steal at this sub $7K salary. The 35-year-old is coming off two impressive starts, finishing T30th at the Masters and then 18th at the RBC Heritage, while gaining strokes on APP at both events. In addition to the encouraging form, Fowler boasts incredible resume at Quail Hollow. In 11 appearances at the par 71, the veteran has carded five top-six finishes, including a victory in 2012.
Despite costing only $6,900, Fowler carries the best odds to win the Wells Fargo Championship of all the golfers priced under $7.5K, sitting at +5500 on the DraftKings Sportsbook. For more perspective on how underpriced he is, while Fowler is only 43rd most expensive player for DFS this week, his +5500 odds to win are tied for the 29th best in the field.
Seamus Power ($6,200) – At this near minimum salary and with him likely to come with low ownership coming off a missed cut, Power is a great punt for GPPs. The veteran failed to make the cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week, but this is only Power’s third missed cut in 12 starts this season and prior to this—the Irishman finished T12th at the RBC Heritage. Power has finished no worse than T31st at four consecutive signature events and he has never missed a cut at Quail Hollow in five starts, with three of these finishes being top-30 results, including a T18 at last year’s Wells Fargo Championship.
Power ranks 18th in total strokes gained when we analyze this field’s last 50 rounds at Fazio designs and has a ton of merit with no cut to worry about this week.
