On Tuesday night, Major League Baseball has a full night of action on tap with eight games on the main DraftKings slate, which gets underway at 7:05 p.m. ET. There are three divisional games as part of the mix including the Dodgers and Diamondbacks meeting in a marquee NL West matchup to close out the night.
With 16 teams to choose from, there are lots of angles to consider and matchups to break down. There are also plenty of favorable matchups to attack including some strong stacking options. SP Cal Quantrill, Colorado Rockies at Oakland Athletics, $6,000
I went against my usual “No Colorado Arms” policy in Quantrill’s last start, and he delivered another strong outing and beat the Padres on the road. His salary is still extremely affordable, and his matchup is even better this time around, so I’m going back to the well for another taste of the Rockies. Quantrill has won three straight starts and posted over 20 DKFP in each of those outings. In five of his last six starts, he has allowed one run or zero runs with the one exception being an ugly Coors Field start against the Astros. On the season, the 29-year-old is 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA, 4.80 FIP and 6.27 K/9. Normally, I target pitchers with more strikeout potential than Quantrill brings, but has had at least five strikeouts in each of his last three starts, totaling 19 in 21 2⁄3 innings. On Tuesday, Quantrill will look to keep rolling against the A’s, who rank in the bottom five in the MLB in runs scored and are hitting just .220 as a team with a 26.1% team K% that is the second-highest in the MLB. The fact that he’s not a Coors Field and in such a pitcher-friendly matchup makes Quantrill a great play at only $6,000.
OF Luke Raley, Seattle Mariners at New York Yankees, $3,100
Raley is another player I’m running it back with this Tuesday since the lefty continues to crush in the middle of the Mariners lineup and come at a very affordable salary. The Mariners grabbed Raley from the Rays in a trade this past offseason, and the 29-year-old is hitting .311 in his first season in Seattle with three homers, three stolen bases and a .351 wOBA. He has hit safely in 10 of his past 11 games after collecting three hits for the second game in a row on Monday. He has gone 18-for-39 (.462) during that stretch with two homers and a .513 wOBA to average 10.7 DKFP per game. On Tuesday, Raley is in a tough matchup against Clarke Schmidt ($8,400), who has looked excellent in his last few starts. However, Schmidt has been much less effective at home at Yankee Stadium this year, and the short right-field porch should present a good opportunity for Raley to stay hot and help the Mariners continue to battle for the top spot in the AL West after rallying to beat the Yankees on Monday.
SS Luis Vazquez, Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves, $2,000
The Cubs are expected to call up Vazquez for his MLB debut on Tuesday when they open their series against the Braves and take on Charlie Morton ($8,100). Vazquez could be busy right away since Nico Hoerner ($4,000; hamstring) has missed six straight games and could be headed to the IL. Even with Dansby Swanson ($2,800) activated, Vazquez should get plenty of playing time. The 24-year-old was ranked as the organization’s No. 13 prospect coming into the season and has been solid in 39 games for the Iowa Cubs in Triple-A this season. He had a .262 average and .349 wOBA with three home runs, 11 RBI and a stolen base. While his profile is mostly as a defense-first utility player long term, he tuned up his swing and has hit for more power over the last couple of seasons. Getting him at the minimum salary is a great way to get some upside and still have all the salary you need to stack other spots with plenty of power.
