PITCHER
Stud
Tyler Glasnow, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington Nationals ($11,000) — The MLB DFS pick is obvious. Getting Glasnow into a lineup is not. Pitching prices are tight. The MLB DFS value pitching targets are risky. Glasnow will require some cheap bats (see below). The Nationals are hitting. They’ve started the season with above-average numbers against right-handed pitching. They’re not punching bags but they’re not Murders’ Row, either. Glassnow is 3-0 in four starts. His xFIP is 2.96 and his K-Rate is 32.2%.
Value
Ben Brown, Chicago Cubs at Arizona Diamondbacks ($6,300) — There isn’t any value at pitching on this slate. It’s a spend-up night. If forced to save at pitching, Brown could be considered, The Diamondbacks haven’t fared well against right-handed pitching (.319 wOBA, .151 ISO and 96 wRC+). Those stats include a massive opening weekend series with the Rockies and a trip to Coors in the third series of the season. Brown got blown up by the Rangers in his debut. but he bounced back in his next two starts. He hasn’t gotten past the fifth inning yet, but he struck out five batters in his second and third starts. The rookie — the Cubs No. 9 prospect — glided through the minors amassing massive strikeout totals. He had a terrific spring. This isn’t a complete prayer.
INFIELD
Stud
Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington Nationals ($6,400) — When in doubt, bet on Betts. The top of the board isn’t filled with obvious choices. No one feels like a lock. That will lower ownership. The lack of MLB DFS value pitching options will lower Betts’ ownership. He is the most consistent IF/OF DFS producer in fantasy baseball and has a sky-high ceiling. If you can get there, get there.
Jose Altuve, Houston Astros vs. Atlanta Braves ($5,400) — Ride the hot hand. Altuve scored 23 DKFP on Saturday. He homered twice on Sunday (36 DKFP). He’s hitting everything hard. In the last five games, he has nine HardHits and four Barrels. Rookie pitcher Darius Vines ($7,800) is making his 2024 debut. He is not a strikeout pitcher. He pitches to contact and relies on groundball outs. Good luck with that.
Value
Joey Bart, Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets ($2,300) — A catcher is in the targets article? Everyone saves salary at this position. Pitching is expensive on this slate. Bart is cheap and hot. Don’t have a cow, man. Pick him. In his last three starts, Bart has two homers, five RBIs, five hits and three walks. He doesn’t play everyday, so check the lineup on Monday night.
Joseph Ortiz, Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres ($3,200) — Stud pitchers require cheaper than usual value MLB DFS picks. Ortiz has a hit in four of the last five games with seven hits total. P Joe Musgrove ($8,600) hasn’t gotten off to a great start in 2024. His strikeout numbers are nearing a career low (8.4 K/9) and his xFIP is 4.80.
OUTFIELD
Stud
Marcell Ozuna, Atlanta Braves at Houston Astros ($5,200) — This could be a World Series preview. This will not be a World Series preview because both teams are starting rookies. The 9.5 total is the highest on the slate. Ozuna should be one of the run producers. He’s on a 13-game hit streak and leads the league in home runs (seven) and RBIs (21).
Juan Soto, New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays ($6,100) — The Yankees got what they wanted. They always get what they want. Soto is a top-10 hitter this season. His wOBA is .443 and his wRC+ is 197. The ISO is down (.190), but it will come around.
Value
Jake Fraley, Cincinnati Reds at Seattle Mariners ($4,400) — This MLB DFS value pick does not provide the most savings. However, the revenge narrative is too hard to ignore. The Mariners gave up on Fraley and shipped him to Cincinnati. Since the switch, Fraley has realized his potential. Fraley doesn’t qualify for league leader stats, but in 35 at-bats, he has a .424 AVG and .433 wOBA. On Sunday, he reached base four times and stole three bases.
Blake Perkins, Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres ($3,200) — OF Christian Yelich ($5,100) has sat out the last two games. Perkins has a firm spot in the Brewers’ lineup. The game is in one of the best hitters’ parks in baseball and the opposing pitcher is struggling. This is not a straight punt. Perkins is hitting. He’s hit in six of seven (10 hits) and has two home runs over that span. He collected three hits and a homer on Sunday.
