Earlier on Friday, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa signed a four-year, $212.4 million extension. Not too long after that announcement, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst’s secretary notified him that David Mulugheta and Andrew Kessler (Jordan Love’s agents) were on the phone.
There were discussions throughout the day, hammering out the details, dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s, but eventually the two sides found common ground and agreed to a four-year extension worth $220 million, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal makes Love the highest paid quarterback in the NFL.
Love is 25 years old and essentially sat the first two years of his career, playing in 10 games, starting one and throwing a total of 83 passes. Last season, in his first as the unquestioned starter, Love completed 372 of 579 passes (64.2%) for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed 50 times for 247 yards and four touchdowns. He led the Packers to a 9-8 record and an upset of the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs.
The future is bright in Green Bay.
