On Wednesday, we are going to be treated to a great day of international soccer, with England and the Netherlands battling it out for a place in Sunday’s Euro 2024 final against Spain, followed by Colombia and Uruguay going toe-to-toe in what should be a very competitive Copa America semi-final.
Below are some of my favorite bets for Wednesday’s action.
No- Both Teams to Score (Netherlands vs. England) (-130)
This feels like another low-scoring knockout match between England and the Netherlands. Every English game so far this tournament has been fairly boring and low-scoring. I think Wednesday’s semi-final will be another cagey affair between two teams desperate to advance to Sunday’s final. This bet has hit in only two of England’s five games, but wonder goals from Jude Bellingham against Slovakia and Bukayo Saka against Switzerland have saved their bacon in recent weeks. Many of England’s games don’t have too many chances, and I’m thinking this trend will continue.
Both defenses have been solid in this tournament, with England conceding only three goals in five games and the Netherlands giving up five in five. The Dutch were not very solid defensively against Austria in their 3-2 loss but have been excellent in their four other games. They have kept clean sheets in two of their games, against France and Romania. To me, this seems like a game where the Netherlands can get sucked into England’s defensive game plan, and match that with one of their own. I expect this game to be limited on goals, chances and drama, and that would mean that both teams scoring in the 90 minutes is unlikely.

Colombia to Advance (vs. Uruguay) (-110)
Both of these teams have been very impressive in this year’s Copa America, but only one can advance on Wednesday night. Colombia are unbeaten in their last 27 matches, and I do not see that streak coming to an end on Wednesday. Keep in mind, that if this game is tied after 90 minutes, we will be going directly to a penalty shootout.
This will be the first meeting between these two nations in the Copa America, but they have both played two of the same teams in Brazil and Panama. Both of them drew against Brazil and beat Panama, with the biggest difference being that Colombia beat Panama 5-0 while Uruguay only won 3-1. The number of goals you win by doesn’t matter too much, but it does indicate that Colombia could be slightly more prolific in front of goal. I think these teams are pretty fairly matched, but Colombia seems to have the edge. They haven’t lost a game since February of 2022, and even though a draw doesn’t guarantee them to advance, I think they will find a way to get through to Sunday’s final. Even though Uruguay has plenty of great players, stars like Luis Diaz and James Rodríguez could very well be the difference for the Colombians on Wednesday.
