The Dallas Mavericks avoided a sweep in the 2024 NBA Finals, blowing out the Boston Celtics in Game 4 to extend the series for at least one more contest. The Mavericks appear to be staving off the inevitable as no team has come back from a 3-0 deficit in the NBA playoffs but at least they won what could be the last home game of their season. The Celtics will now get an opportunity to close out the Finals in front of their fans at TD Garden.

Despite losing by nearly 40 points, the Celtics are still in prime position to wrap up the series at home and Brown remains the heavy favorite to win Finals MVP. Tatum, Holiday and White are also contenders but no one stood out in Game 4 for Boston. Brown has been the team’s most consistent player, but Tatum does have an outside shot to take the honor should he deliver a huge showing in Game 5.
For the Mavericks, Doncic saw the big jump from Game 3 to 4. He went from +2500 after Game 3 to +1200 after Game 4 thanks to 29 points, five rebounds and five assists. Surprisingly, Irving fell off considerably despite a strong showing. He’s now listed as the last possible option to win Finals MVP.
