The PGA TOUR heads to Ohio this week for the Memorial Tournament. The Jack Nicklaus designed Muirfield Village Golf Club will be the host, and measures as a 7,569-yard par 72, featuring Bentgrass greens.
We have another Signature Event on the docket this week, so the field is obviously loaded, led at the top by World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. There will be just 71 players teeing it up at Jack’s Place this week, and there will be a 36-hole cut featuring the top-50 and ties, as well as anyone within 10 strokes of the leader
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Wyndham Clark to win (+4500)
This is strictly a bet on talent play at this number, because Clark is coming in with some abysmal form. However, he’s contended plenty over the past two years even after coming in with poor form, including multiple times already in 2024. He missed the cut in ugly fashion at the Masters, but then followed that up with a T3 at the RBC Heritage, where one poor tee shot in the final round kept him from chasing down Scottie Scheffler.
Earlier in the year, Clark also missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational, but then bounced right back at the Arnold Palmer in his next start, finishing solo second behind Scheffler.
Clark has established himself as a serial winner these past 13 months, triumphing at the U.S. Open, Wells Fargo Championship and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He’s gotten himself all the way up to No. 3 in the world, and only Scheffler has more wins than him in that span.
Clark posted his best finish at Muirfield last year when he tied for 12th, and I expect him to bounce right back into form in this spot, just one week shy of his U.S. Open title defense. If you’re going to give me 45/1 on a stone-cold killer like Wyndy C, I am going to take it every time, especially in a 71-man field.
Byeong Hun An to win (+5000)
Benny An is quietly having one of the best seasons on the PGA TOUR this season. He’s already posted five top-10 finishes, two of which came at certified big-boy courses — Quail Hollow and Bay Hill. He also finished T16 at the Masters, which was his best career Augusta finish to date.
An is no stranger to Jack’s Place either, having played Memorial seven of the past 10 years, while posting top-25 finishes in five of those starts, including a runner-up to Bryson DeChambeau in 2018.
An has all the tools needed to compete at Muirfield, as he rates out as the longest hitter in the field over the past 24 rounds, while ranking fourth in GIR%. He’s an absolute tee-to-green wizard and is playing the best golf of his life right now.
It’s obviously a tall order asking him to take down the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele, but at 50/1 it makes a ton of sense to back him.
