The Minnesota Vikings will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in a Saturday matchup in Week 15. Minnesota has already determined that they will make a quarterback change, with Nick Mullens replacing Joshua Dobbs under center. Starting running back Alexander Mattison may not join Mullens in the backfield as he is dealing with an ankle injury.

Alexander Mattison injury updates

Thursday PM update: Mattison has been ruled out for Week 15’s matchup with the Bengals. Ty Chandler should take the lead role and have some value for fantasy players this weekend.

Thursday update: Mattison was spotted at practice, but wasn’t participating on Thursday, per Kevin Seifert. With a game on Saturday, we will get the Vikings final injury report this afternoon.

Wednesday update: Mattison was not spotted during the media portion of Wednesday’s practice. He could still be listed as limited, but it would go a long way for his game status if he can be seen practicing on Thursday.

Tuesday update: The Vikings didn’t practice on Tuesday, so the team’s practice report was an estimation. Still, Mattison was estimated that he wouldn’t have practiced. With the game on Saturday, he will have two more days to practice.

Fantasy football analysis

Mattison hasn’t taken over the backfield like he was hoped to do when Minnesota released veteran running back Dalvin Cook in the offseason. He heads into this week as the overall RB31 in half-PPR scoring. Chandler hasn’t gotten much work this season and is the overall RB58. If Mattison is healthy, you likely are only going to start him in 12-team leagues or larger with the Bengals’ defense allowing middling numbers to opposing running backs.
