Who could Dolphins play in the AFC Wild Card Round?

The Miami Dolphins enter Week 18 with everything on the line. Well, not a playoff spot like the Buffalo Bills. But close enough. The Dolphins host the Bills on Sunday Night Football in Week 18 and the winner will take the AFC East division title. The loser, well, if it’s the Dolphins, they still make it in. If the Bills lose, it could mean missing out on the playoffs altogether. But there are a few different scenarios for the Dolphins, so let’s go over who they might end up facing in the postseason.

Most likely Wild Card Round opponent

That’s difficult to tell at this point. If the Dolphins win, they’ll get the No. 2 seed and face the No. 7 seed in the playoffs, which could be either the Houston Texans or Indianapolis Colts. Those two teams play each other in a de factor playoff game on Saturday evening. The winner will also have a shot at taking the AFC South division title if the Jacksonville Jaguars lose. So a lot can happen to alter seeding. If the Dolphins lose to the Bills, they’d end up on the road at the 3-seeded Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round as the No. 6 seed.

Possible Wild Card Round opponents

As was mentioned above, it looks like the Dolphins will face either the Chiefs or an AFC South opponent in the Wild Card round. There’s the possibility that the Dolphins claim the No. 2 seed and the Pittsburgh Steelers end up in the postseason as the No. 7 seed. So we’ll throw the Steelers out there as a possible opponent as well.

How have the Dolphins fared against these teams this season?

Miami didn’t face the AFC South division this season. The Dolphins also didn’t face the Steelers. The only team the Dolphins could face again is the Chiefs. Miami lost to Kansas City 21-14 in Germany in Week 9. So it’s tough to gauge from that game considering it was overseas and before Miami’s bye week.
