Ladd McConkey (concussion) will not return to Sunday’s game between the Chargers and the Chiefs. He was ruled out directly after a trip to the blue medical tent. He’s in the concussion protocol.
Ladd McConkey had finally shed his injury designation before Sunday’s trip to Kansas City. A foot injury interrupted his Week 4 appearance against Seattle, and, although he dressed against Denver last week, he never entered the game. His clearance for Week 6 was supposed to restore a badly needed receiving option for Justin Herbert. Not to be so!
McConkey entered Sunday with 12 catches for 183 yards and one touchdown across four appearances, with all that production coming in the first three games. He opened the season with five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown against Arizona, then added four receptions for 66 yards against Buffalo in Week 3. Injuries have repeatedly interrupted those promising stretches: he averaged 15.3 yards per catch entering this afternoon, but had gone two consecutive games without a reception.
His exit further depletes a receiving corps already missing Tre’ Harris with a hamstring injury. Quentin Johnston, who cleared his own chest injury designation this week, becomes an especially important target for Herbert. Marquez Valdes-Scantling also entered Sunday without a game designation after dealing with a rib injury.
