UPDATE: Kamara has returned to the game, much to the relief of Saints fans.
Alvin Kamara left today’s game between the Saints and the Giants after landing awkwardly on his back along the sideline.
Alvin Kamara entered Sunday already nursing a back injury, which limited him in all three practices and left him questionable for the Giants game. He ultimately dressed, but his availability had been uncertain for a second consecutive week, and this looks like it may have aggravated the wrong thing at the wrong time.
The 31-year-old has endured a painfully quiet start to his tenth season. Across four appearances before Sunday, Kamara carried 28 times for 86 yards and two touchdowns, adding 13 catches for 41 yards. That amounts to just 127 scrimmage yards on 41 touches. His afternoon against Minnesota last week was especially barren: three carries for 12 yards and two receptions that lost six yards combined. Both of his touchdowns came against Atlanta in Week 4.
Kendre Miller would stand to absorb more work if Kamara cannot return. Miller was already sharing substantial rushing duties, scoring against Minnesota while Kamara struggled to contribute. With Travis Etienne Jr. on injured reserve following a hamstring aggravation, another absence would further thin an already unsettled Saints backfield.
