Emeka Egbuka leads Tampa Bay in targets and red zone looks, and he found the end zone on a run in Dallas last week to post 17.2 PPR points. The question is what he can do with a rookie throwing to him again. Baker Mayfield’s dislocated right thumb will keep him sidelined, and Jalon Daniels is set to make his third straight start. Find out whether you should start or sit Emeka Egbuka in Week 6.
Emeka Egbuka Start or Sit Advice for Week 6
Egbuka’s role is the anchor of his value. He owns a 22.6% share of the Buccaneers’ targets at 6.6 per game, ahead of Cade Otton and Chris Godwin Jr., and he carries 34.8% of the team’s air yards. He also leads Tampa Bay with four red zone targets, and he has scored twice this season, once through the air and once on the ground.
We already have a two-game sample with Daniels under center, and it cuts both ways. Egbuka managed just 3.3 PPR points against Green Bay in Week 4, then drew nine targets in Dallas and turned six catches and a 14-yard touchdown run into 17.2 points. The target volume held up with the rookie, which is the encouraging piece.
Pittsburgh’s secondary is not at full strength. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey has a wrist injury, Jamel Dean is limited with an ankle issue, and safety DeShon Elliott remains on injured reserve with a window to return.
The Biggest Fantasy Risk for Emeka Egbuka in Week 6
Tampa Bay’s passing game has nearly collapsed. The Buccaneers are throwing for 173.4 yards per game with a 78.0 team passer rating, and they are generating just 65.6 air yards per game as a team. At 20.0 points per game, there are not many scoring chances to go around. Egbuka’s own efficiency reflects it, at 5.8 yards per target and 9.1 yards per catch.
Pittsburgh also guards the end zone well. The Steelers allow 27.6 PPR points per game to wide receivers against a league average of 31.9, and they have surrendered just two receiving touchdowns and five red zone targets, both well below league norms of 4.5 and 11.2. That makes a repeat of his Week 5 touchdown a tough ask.
Pittsburgh has faced Atlanta, New England, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Indianapolis, and only Cincinnati among them brings a high-powered passing attack. Opponents have still thrown for right around league average yardage against the Steelers, so the coverage is more generous between the 20s than the touchdown numbers suggest. The red zone stinginess, however, is real.
Godwin is also a factor. He has caught 19 of his 21 targets with 129 YAC, giving Daniels a safe underneath option who can siphon some of the short-area work.
Fantasy Outlook for Emeka Egbuka in Week 6
Egbuka is a Borderline Start in Week 6, best used as a FLEX in deeper leagues. His target share and red zone usage lead this offense, and Pittsburgh’s secondary is banged up.
Daniels under center and the Bucs’ broader struggles keep him out of safer territory. Expect a volatile line that leans on volume rather than efficiency, much like the 3.3 and 17.2 swing of the last two weeks. Fantasy managers covering byes from Minnesota, Miami, Cincinnati and Detroit can roll with him, but a receiver attached to a healthier passing game is the safer call.
