TreVeyon Henderson is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Jets after suffering what was reported as a high ankle sprain in New England’s win over the Raiders. The initial expectation was that he would miss multiple games, so simply carrying a questionable tag is a step in the right direction. He was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, and his status could go down to the wire. Find out whether you should start or sit TreVeyon Henderson in Week 6.
TreVeyon Henderson Start or Sit Advice for Week 6
If Henderson does suit up, he steps into a favorable matchup. The Jets allow 24.7 PPR points per game to running backs against a league average of 21.9, and they have given up 102.2 rushing yards per game to backs compared with the league’s 91.2. They have also allowed 27 red zone carries to the position, well above the league average of 18.3. New York has faced Green Bay, Tennessee, Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland, a group running right around league average against them, so that generosity is genuine.
The game flow should cooperate too. The Jets are scoring just 18.6 points per game, and New England runs for 127.2 yards per game as a team. A Patriots lead at home would mean a steady diet of carries in the second half.
Henderson’s appeal has always been the big play. His 39-yard run tops anything Rhamondre Stevenson or Corey Kiner has produced this season, and he has piled up 67 yards after contact on 42 carries. One clean crease is all it takes for a back with his speed to swing a fantasy week.
The Biggest Fantasy Risk for TreVeyon Henderson in Week 6
The questionable tag is the first hurdle, and it is a big one. A back who was expected to miss multiple games just days ago may not be cleared without restrictions, and even if he is active, New England has every reason to manage his snaps. Patriots-Jets kicks off at 1:00 p.m. ET Sunday, so fantasy managers may not get clarity until shortly before lineups lock.
The injury itself compounds the problem. High ankle sprains can linger and can take away the lateral quickness and burst that Henderson relies on. A limited version of Henderson loses the very trait that makes him worth considering, and a back playing through a high ankle sprain is also at risk of aggravating it and exiting early.
Even at full health, his role was shrinking. Stevenson leads the backfield with 37.7% of the carries to Henderson’s 27.8%, and he has caught 15 passes for 111 yards while Henderson has two catches. Stevenson scored 17.5 PPR points against the Raiders. Kiner, who was set to step into the No. 2 role with Henderson expected out, ran six times for 52 yards against Las Vegas and is likely to stay involved as insurance.
The production trend offers no comfort either. After 13.6 PPR points in his season debut, Henderson has posted 3.9, 4.2 and 4.8, with only two red zone carries and no meaningful work in the passing game.
Fantasy Outlook for TreVeyon Henderson in Week 6
Sit Henderson in Week 6. The Jets matchup is inviting, but a questionable tag on a high ankle sprain, a likely snap limit and a backfield led by Stevenson add up to too much risk for a back whose recent production has been this thin.
If he is ruled out, Kiner becomes the more interesting add as the clear No. 2 behind Stevenson. If Henderson is active, he is a high-risk dart throw at best, viable only for deep-league managers who are short on options with Minnesota, Miami, Cincinnati and Detroit on bye.
For everyone else, the safer move is to bench him, plan a pivot before the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff and revisit his outlook next week once the ankle has had more time to heal.
