With Jalen Hurts ruled out, is Tanner McKee a sleeper DFS value pick in Week 6?

It’s been a rough season for the Eagles. The squad is 2-3 and coming off a painful 19-17 loss to the Jaguars last Sunday. Now, Philadelphia will be without their starting quarterback, as Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Panthers with a superficial blood clot.

To make matters worse, Saquon Barkley (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (hamstring) have not practiced this week as of Thursday, meaning both players are likely to remain out this Sunday.

With Hurts sidelined, Tanner McKee ($4,000) is set to make his third career start at quarterback. While this offense is alarming, McKee is priced at a bare minimum of $4,000 on DraftKings. At this price, is the quarterback worth considering?

Tanner McKee Fantasy Outlook

McKee is producing 0.45 FPTS per dropback, which is solid. For perspective, Tyler Shough, Aaron Rodgers and Jacoby Brissett are all averaging less this season.

McKee’s matchup against the Panthers is also very favorable. Carolina ranks 21st in defensive EPA per play and second in pace. Three of the four quarterbacks that have faced the Panthers have scored 20+ FPTS, including 37.3 FPTS from Caleb Williams in Week 1.

McKee missing Barkley and Smith is concerning. Still, Dallas Goedert ($3,900) is back, and Dontayvion Wicks ($5,100) and Darius Cooper ($4,300) have both had solid seasons so far.

McKee and these pass catchers should be able to move the ball in this plus spot against the Panthers. A 15+ FPTS performance from the backup QB is realistic, and it would be an awesome return at his salary.

While I wouldn’t trust McKee in cash games, stacking him with Goedert and one of Wicks or Cooper in GPPs has merit and surely will make your lineup contrarian.
